If you put dd-wrt on it you will lose the 5ghz radio.

yes, That would be to flash to dd-wrt if you currently have stock firmware on it now.

NOTE:
I don't have this router and see very little about it in forums recently so you will have to rely in links I provided.

new to the forum
I just had an ATT modem/router (gateway) installed, and I want to use my existing EA2700 as a repeater or access point; I'm not sure that I truly understand the difference.

I know that flashing ddwrt will disable the 5ghz antenna, and i'm willing to live with that. Leaving the Cisco firmware, I can set it as a Bridge, and I ask what's wrong with that. Essentially, I want to be able to have that wifi signal broadcast all around the house and 2nd floor, and wouldn't setting the ea2700 to bridge do that?

I appreciate all the help. I have read this thread and others, and I think that I understand the process for flashing ddwrt.

Actually, Bridge mode is naitively supported by the stock Linksys firmware. I'm using bridge mode in my house. My network is as below:
Code:
Optical Modem  <---wired--->  WRT1200AC (2.4 + 5GHz) <---wired---> EA2700 Bridge Mode (2.4 + 5GHz)

The guide is here https://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=143751
Backup link in case Linksys remove the page: https://web.archive.org/web/20171022131935/https://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=143751
Screenshot of EA2700 control panel when in bridge mode:

Thanks Ionk
That's exactly how I have it, and it works perfectly fine. I don't see a need to flash ddrt on the ea2700.
