I'm sorry, I'm going to be upfront. I am not savvy with DD-WRT, so I will try my best to explain what has happened to bring me here to post.

I have a LinkSys 2700 that some time ago I flashed with DD-WRT and configured it to work with my PIA VPN. Connections to this router would connect automatically through the VPN. The connection name was Skittles_v16.

Recently, I discovered my router was broadcasting an insecure wireless connection called simply LINKSYS. Skittles_V16 was also available, but connection to it was so poor that windows 8.1 refused to connect to it.

My access to the router via 192.168.1.1 took me to the router's settings. But it wasn't the DD-WRT interface. It was the Linksys interface. I found the LINKSYS connection, and enabled wireless security.

So my question is ... what happened to by DD-WRT? The connection (Skittles_v16) set up through DD-WRT shows (despite it not being very robust) is still there, but so is a connection from that same router through the LinkSys connection. I can't access the DD-WRT interface, so I can't even locate any setting associated to Skittles_v16.

Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong?

Unplug your router and see if the Skittles_v16 SSID is still seen or if it disappears. If it does disappears and you still see the LINKSYS SSID then the LINKSYS SSID is not on your router. Most likely you are connecting to a neighbors router on the LINKSYS SSID.

which dd-wrt build you had?

ea2700 broadcasts SSID: Cisco##### on factory firmware, so it could be another AP, compare mac addresses to confirm.

The ea2700 has two partitions. Most likely it booted into the other partition.

I have a Linksys EA2700, it has a nasty problem with wanting to boot back into its Linksys firmware. Brainslayer actually refused to add in code to enable the option manually but you can add it to a start up script via the Admin - Commands page.

Code:

nvram set partialboots=0
nvram commit

This will stop the router trying to boot into its other partition.
