I recently purchased two used WRT610Nv2 routers that I successfully upgraded to E3000s. However, my lack of foresight led me to learn later that this model of router suffers from severe overheating issues. At this point, I suspect both of them are nearly dead from the problem.
What are some recommended routers I could pick up to replace these which fit the following criteria?
-DD-WRT support (!)
-Broadcom
-Easy to upgrade (i.e. no need to tftp each time)
-At least 802.11n support (802.11ac would be a bonus)
-2.4 Ghz. and 5 Ghz. radios configurable for simultaneous use
-At least one USB port
-Inexpensive, say max of ~$30 incl. shipping each
-Ideally >=60k nvram (to avoid issues I had read were affecting the WRT610Nv2 model)
-Support for Mega/Big builds
-No glaring hardware flaws (overheating issues, frequent bad signal quality, etc)
As a remark, I have had some success with a v1 model of the same router, but it has been giving me some issues as of late that have required hard resets to fix. However, it may just be the build of DD-WRT that I'm using.

Unless you can find your perfect cheap router in a leprechan's lap or unicorn's ass...it's pretty easy to disassemble a router to add/upgrade the heatsink(s) and/or thermal compound/adhesive. That said, I picked up a $40 refurb EA6900 at Newegg a couple weeks ago, though updating it (incl to fix an nvram issue) was not for the novice. I see pretty good deals fairly often though; use wikidevi to research h/w specs. _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

Look into the netgear r6400, the r7000 or the asus rt-ac68 variants. They can all be had cheaply if bought used.
I have an asus tm-ac1900 converted to an rt-ac68p for sale for $45 on Craigslist, which is apparently too high as no one is interested. Lol _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
