hi all
currently got a Linksys WRT1900ACS and using DD WRT its not very stable at all. Reboots every 2-3 days during the night and sometimes get wifi issues.
I am thinking about swapping for Netgear P7800. Is the Netgear stable and no major issues on DD WRT?
thanks

Netgear r7800 Kong based router is much more stable unit compare to all Linksys WRT series. I cant be more happier now with r7800 after two years of Linksys nightmare. You cant fix unfixable. Swap it asap

wrong. its not linksys, its marvell. wrt1900xxx is marvell based, r7800 is qualcomm, and linksys ea8500 is also qualcomm, compare a ea8500 to wrt1900xxx, ull see..

I swapped a Linksys WRT1900ACv1 for the R7800 because I was tired of dealing with all the issues with the Marvell chipset. The move to kernel version 4.9 on DD-WRT for those devices is what ultimately drove me to swap because for some reason, the WRT1900ACv1 experiences random reboots with any kernel version over 4.4.x. It's a known issue and nobody has been able to do anything about it.

I must say that I'm a little disappointed in the builds of DD-WRT for the R7800 in terms of speed (it's a little slower than the WRT1900ACv1) and the lack of updates for the device (it's still running on kernel version 3.18 which is nearly EOL).

However, for me, it is stable (though my setup is pretty vanilla, no VPN/DNS/adblock services used) so it is an upgrade from the WRT1900ACv1.

I already swapped it now. Now Im wondering if I made mistake if what you say is true about it being slower.

In reviews for 5ghz wifi people say r7800 is faster. Only on 2.4 channels is it slightly slower then other routers.

Shame there is no Tomato by shibby for 7800.
Will test out both LEDE and dd wrt once my 7800 arrives tomorrow.

ok

Has Kong stopped doing Builds now?
So if we want latest we either use latest beta DD WRT or LEDE?

His last build was august 9th. That's not even a month ago.
Most of Europe is on vacation in august and this is not a paid position.
What's the hurry?

It was not a question on when.
He stopped builds for WRT1900 series so was wondering if its the same for 7800 too.

The answer is still no. The last build was less than a month ago. Why would you think he was done?

Also in the question I replied to you don't mention the wrt1900ac. Was I supposed to know you were equating the wrt1900ac with the r7800?

I went to R7800 from WRT1900AC v1 after several years of random reboots, personally I think it was some hardware issue, no matter what firmware I used it was still an issue

Now on R7800 I am happy for several months, 5GHz real speed is 520 Mbit which I consider as very good (I use Lede f/w on 4.9.40 kernel)
