Hi guys,

It is my first post here and hopefully someone can give me a hand. I have attached to this message my ridiculous communication with ASUS support. In a nutshell, I have bought a brand new Westernal Digital My Cloud 8TB external hard drive. I have attached it to the USB3.0 port of my ASUS RT-AC87U router. The problem is that whether I mount the router via SAMBA or as FTP, I can see in my windows 10 that it is only 1.27 TB size (in comparison to its real 7.5 TB size). According to ASUS, they support only 4TB and not 8TB external hard disks, which is ridiculous if you see the attached PDF with my communication with them.

My question to your guys is whether removing the original asus firmware and replacing it with DD-WRT will solve the problem? Does any of you have successfully attached big external hard drive without issues using DD-WRT? Does any of you know about this problem for this router?

Best Regards,
Yavor

Did you split the drive into partitions? What format did you use? Try dividing the drive into 2 or 4 equal partitions.

DD-WRT cannot solve hardware limitations. Especially those imposed by memory and cpu constraints.

Here is a link to Asus's drive info page.

Even my NAS boxes have limits on drive and partition size.

Otherhand I had no problems with 30+ Gb files with AsusWRT and NTFS formatted drive. Asus claims they support only 8Gb files. Using 1Tb Seagate drive.

Your email says it's an rt-ac88u but your post here says rt-ac87u.
Which is it? If it's an rt-ac88u, you may not even be able to put dd-wrt on it.
