Is it possible to read the signal quality as perceived by a 3G/4G modem?

Something equivalent to AT+CSQ?

Both when not connected and when connected? To diagnose, to monitor, to evaluate.

I would like commandline access to read the current signal strength.

If you know what is possible then I would appreciate, if you would post some details.
