Hi

I have an old Linksys E900 Based on the Broadcom BCM5357.

I haven't used this router in a while. Now I would like to configure it for Proton VPN.

In the instructions to configure Proton VPN there are some missing fields, so I tried to upgrade the router's firmware BUT I am unable to find where to download the latest version available.

The Firmware information on my Router DD-WRT says that the version is v24-sp2 (05/27/13) big - build 21676

Maybe this router has been discontinued but I'm pretty sure somewhere over the Internet or even in the FTP repository there should be a more recent version.

So if someone can please point me in the right directions I would appreciate it.

Regards

Where, it looks like that I have found something.

In this other thread someone update his E900 with the firmware dd-wrt.v24-33006_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv64k.bin

Looking for that firmware I found out the repository and newer version of this build, exactly these:

dd-wrt.v24-33492_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv64k.bin
dd-wrt.v24-33492_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv64k.bin
dd-wrt.v24-33492_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e900.bin
dd-wrt.v24-33492_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-nv64k.bin

In the DD-WRT E900 Guide it mentioned specifically that for the E900 you should use nv64k builds

So I guess that this answer my own question.

First upgraded to dd-wrt.v24-33492_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-nv64k.bin

after finished I rebooted the router, then did the upgrade to dd-wrt.v24-33492_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv64k.bin

Looks promising. Let me do a factory reset and see if I can do the configuration.

Good to hear you got it sorted, but be very careful when updating builds. Many recent builds have had serious issues and lots of bricking. 33492 happens to be good except for k3.x builds on most 8MB routers; 33006 and 33215 are also good and don't have the k3x issue. I presume the E900 is too old to use k3x builds. Always refer to the New Build threads, and in fact you can now update it with your newfound success. Razz

How quickly I forget...E900 not only can use k3.x builds, but it also has the extra 64KB flash like the E1200v2 and E1500, so 33492 should actually fit. This would let you use SFE accelerated NAT (for gateway and other firewall-enabled modes).

Wau, good to know.

Right now I'm having issues configuring ProtonVPN, well not exactly, has been configured and I can connect to the VPN service but for some reasons when I connect to that router there's not VPN shared just normal local Internet connection.

But would be this Monday when I will be able to continue with this issue
