Ok, on an ancient build(DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/16/14) kongac
(SVN revision 23900M)on r7000) because its always been rock stable for me. It's time to update though. I just want to verify I should go forward with updating via the instructions in the Peacock thread? Or should I try ddup?

I plan on redoing all the settings manually after clearing nvram.

Worst case scenario I do have the hardware on hand to hook up a serial cable and I have a spare router if need be.

Thanks for any input.

ddup will be fine assuming the builds had it back in 2014(I didn't have any routers with a kong build so I didn't pay attention). As you said clearing nvram would be a good idea jumping so many version.

I don't think ddup was included back then. If I were you....I'd download the build 33525, then reset your device, flash the newest builds, and reconfigure from scratch. There were too many changes made to use old settings.

After that...then you can update using ddup.

[EDIT] - I take that back...it was in build 24200...so it could have been in 23900 as well.

In any event...definitely reset the router and reconfigure from scratch.

This is the earliest mention of ddup & a specific rev I could find by Kong. It comes from the venerable R7000 thread

Thank you slidermike & HoBoZ for all your help!. I'm now in the command line of ddup --help .. I'm trying to type in the directory(Where the .bin is to flash). And it keep saying it cannot be found. I think i'm typing it wrong maybe. Any suggestions?

You can pull the fw directly from the server e.g.:

ddup --flash-remote http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/K3-AC-Arm/24045M/dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD_NEWD.bin

or if you are on an older revision:

ddup --flash-latest

it will check for an update if there is one available it will ask for confirmation and then download and flash the latest OLDD build.

or you can download the firmware to your router e.g. usb stick and then flash it for example via:

ddup --flash-local /opt/dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD_NEWD.bin

I have used --flash-latest a couple of times on different routers and it never failed, so it should be as safe as flashing through webif now.
