Hi,
i have just bought this router and discovered it isn't supported.
But searching i found several procedure to install dd-wrt in it.

My confusion is: i found two very different procedures; the last is reported here:

https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1094559&sid=262a618b4745506cc86c586db7d726af

but another needs an asus utility to do this.

What is the correct way to install dd-wrt in it?

Also i don't know what release is better to install. The latest? or a previous one? As i need the router to handle multiple VLan's and NAT (no wireless, no vpn etc..), is mini enough?

Help me, please.
Thank you
Fabrizio

The ASUS recover utility is basically a fancy-dress TFTP utility.

Does the two descriptions differ in that they use the ASUS utility or a TFTP solution?

Did you notice these guides:

I was able to get my RT-N12 D1 router flashed just this evening from stock to dd-wrt.

File: dd-wrt.v24-33607_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega_RT-N12.trx

My method was invasive though.

1. Connect UART to J4
2. Interrupt boot-up sequence to get to CFE> prompt
3. Issue command 'nvram erase'
4. Issue command 'flash -noheader : flash1.trx" and start TFTP of the specified file
5. Reboot router.

First step, i tried the method in
https://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1094559&sid=262a618b4745506cc86c586db7d726af
and it worked fine.
I used v. 3.0 build 33215 mini: https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2017/08-25-2017-r33215/broadcom_K26/dd-wrt.v24-33215_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_RT-N12.trx

All came in the right way and without problems. So i haven't tried others methods.

Thanks to all for help.

This router has a web cfe, so you can hold reset button down, keep holding and power up the router until pings start replying to 192.168.1.1. use the web interface to reset nvram and upload the firmware. I used a .bin and it worked. I used an old mini that someone linked in the wiki, then went to a new k3x mega build with the dd-wrt web interface and used the popup to also reset nvram.
