There's even JFFS2 on the mega build though on which I get a bit of space, but not enough for my purposes.

With the mega build being about 3 megabytes larger than the VPN build (compressed); surely this means that this space would, could and should instead be available for JFFS2 on the much smaller VPN build?

Size was decreased so those that had 4mb flash could run it

I read the reason was that there was some problem with having JFFS2 and VPN enabled at the same time, and it just never got a second look. (See http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=175344#175344 and http://svn.dd-wrt.com:8000/dd-wrt/changeset/9363). This is the first I've heard about it being a size related issue. It could be true of course, it's just different from what I heard.

Also, I am almost completely positive I've had the VPN build running on 4mb routers in the past.

Or do you mean the space was needed since the generic v24 (final/sp1) builds, whereas it was not in rc6.2 and earlier? Is this a result of other things that have been added since then?

I mean, I'm almost sure I've had the VPN build with JFFS2 on a 4mb in the past, unless my memory is playing tricks on me...

However, this is currently not relevant to me, as I'm working on an 8 MB flash device (wl-500gp)

Yes. Two.

1) From what you said, I conclude JFFS2 missing from VPN build since V24 final is on purpose, and not a bug. Correct?

2) Regardless of the previous question, will there ever be an official VPN build with JFFS2 again or can I forget about that (custom builds aside)?

There was never (as of RC5-6) any JFFS support for v24 DD-WRT on VPN builds. Reason for that is unknown to myself.

I've been using one of Eko's custom builds (~10days pre-SP1) for extended JFFS space and VPN. The alternative to that is Mini + "ipkg install openvpn" Very Happy

I'm afraid you must be mistaken...

Click this link for large

This is not custom, not photoshopped, and it's what I currently run, because all VPN builds after this one didn't have JFFS2.

I actually recall a openvpn bug in the VPN load that required BS to remove JFFS to maintain stability. I believe that was in RC5-6 as someone mentioned above.

Looking at the bugtrack I don't know if it ever made it back.

Although, I'm having general problems with JFFS on v24 in general....so mini is the only one I have gotten to work on my GL's. As for the SP1 I have not tested that yet..

You're mistaken. If you look at the image I posted _right_ above your post, you will see I'm running RC6(.2) with JFFS enabled. Not a custom build.

Your timeline is wrong. It only went out just before v24 final came out.

Asus WL-500gP.

All I really need to know though is these two things:

1) From what you've said yesterday I conclude JFFS2 missing from VPN builds later than RC6.2 is intentional rather than a bug, is that correct?

2) Will there be official VPN builds with JFFS2 again in the future, or will I have to make my own custom builds?

Thanks.

I noticed that v24 SP1 was released and I too was excited that maybe JFFS had been enabled for VPN build, but no luck.

I too would like to know if there is ever going to be official builds including both openvpn + jffs going forward.

The suggestion about installing mini and then doing ipkg install sounds good, except the wiki states that the package is no longer available.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/OpenVPN#Install_the_OpenVPN_ipkg_package

So I could try to go through all of this hassle, but I'd be willing to instead wait a few weeks / months if it sounds like JFFS for openvpn package is going to be happening...
