I have a Linksys E1200 version 2. I successfully installed the 21676 mini firmware for an initial flash and decided to flash with a "big" firmware that I had seen as reported as working, that was less than 8 MB.
Unfortunately I accidentally selected a "mega" firmware I had also downloaded that was ever so slightly bigger than 8 MB, "dd-wrt.v24-26490_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv64k".
The Linksys E1200 can't handle firmware bigger than 8 MB, so I assume that's why my router is no longer serving DHCP, and even using a static IP address I get no response from pings.
Is there anything else I can try before I toss the thing in the garbage and buy a new one?
Thanks for the info everyone. That didn't work though, but I figured out why.
Turns out that with any dd-wrt firmware I install the ethernet ports are not working, but the wireless works just fine. I connected to the wireless and the (slightly bigger than 8 mb firmware) was successfully running.
Re-flashed it with the initial mini firmware (dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e1200v2), but none of the 4 ethernet ports give an IP address and I can't ping the router with a static IP. I tried an older mini firmware (dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-nv64k), but I get the same thing.
The ethernet ports work just fine with the stock Linksys firmware. I assume I'm not the only person with this issue with dd-wrt?
EDIT: looks like there are other reports of this in the forums. Going to do some reading and see if I can fix the issue.
Connecting through the wireless I flashed to the stock Linksys firmware. The ethernet ports starting working again. Without doing a hard reset (30/30/30), I flashed to "dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e1200v2" and the ethernet ports continued to work. I again skipped the hard reset, set the after flashing option to "Don't reset", and flashed "dd-wrt.v24-26490_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv64k". The ethernet ports are still working and DD-WRT is working great!
Since this seems to be a common issue (there are quite a few threads about it), should the wiki be updated with a link to FakeFrowns thread?
