Leave it disconnected It's probably either power-related or interference.
Does the drive have a separate power input, and are you using it? I.e. hook up power not from the router (if possible - or get a cable with a separate power input).
Is the wireless affected by the location of the HDD? The other possibility is interference; are you connecting to a USB3 port? It is known to cause 2.4GHz interference if not properly shielded. Use the highest available channel and try using a different USB cable that is known to be shielded. If you really want to dig into it and do some testing... you could try wrapping the connector at the HDD and the HDD+connector with aluminum foil, to see if that helps figure out the source (preferable w/ the foil grounded to the connector metal). _________________ #NAT/SFE/CTF: limited speed w/ DD#Repeater issues#DD-WRT info: FAQ, Builds, Types, Modes, Changes, Demo#

I agree with jwh7, use a good shielded cable. it solved a lot of problems in the past. _________________ Tutorial for flashing WRT series WRT Installation,Upgrade & Basic Setup–Cliff Notes
