I debated whether or not to post as the router has nearly a negative value but its become a bit maddening so here goes.
I have an old Dlink DIR825 router which has worked weell for years mainly for VPN client although was recently replaced by an AC device. A friend asked if he could have it and I said sure but he asked if I would restore facctory firmware.
I set PC network card IP to 192.168.0.2, gateway 192.168.0.1, did the 30/30/30 reset and router is in recovery mode and can connect to the recovery firmware screen no problem. I am able to ping the router at 192.168.0.1. Here's where the mystery begins. No matter which version of factory firmware I load into browswer, it does not begin or start loading fimrware. On some attempts it gives inncorrect hardware ID message. I have also attempted loading dd-wrt via recovery webpage and it will also not load firmware. I have tried Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave Browsers with the same results. Different PC had same result. Since I'm out of ideas hopefully someone with more marbles than I has a suggestion or maybe there is something I'm overlooking. It should be flashing from recovery but its not starting.
blkt - you are a super genius! in the Openwrt link there were commments about using IE10 in IE8 compatibilty mode and that worked instantly. Thank you.
