Hi -

There is a Tutorial in the wiki section called The Easiest Tunnel Ever:https://forum.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/The_Easiest_Tunnel_Ever

It deals with WireGuard. I suggest renaming this to "WireGuard: the Easiest Tunnel Ever" since when I searched for a WireGuard tutorial, I spent hours getting lost in OpenVpn setup thinking that it wasn't supported, or at least it wasn't clear. Finding this tutorial got me set up with a tunnel in my simple implementation in half an hour, so thanks for that.

Additionally, it is problematic that if you do a google search for "site:forum.dd-wrt.com wireguard" the first result is https://forum.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireguard, which does not have a link to that much better Easiest-Tunnel-Ever article. I noticed that the VPN wiki page (https://forum.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/VPN) has an appropriate note at the very top linking to a more up-to-date wiki page, which probably is what is called for with the WireGuard page. I'd suggest making the text larger and bold though, as even on that page, someone in a hurry might miss that note, their eyes instead beckoned by the larger headings below..

Back to the WireGuard "Easiest Tunnel" article - I also suggest making the DNS-related info more clear. I'm extremely confused by it.. Going to make a separate post about that.

Thanks for the this product in any case, as it is solving a lot of problems for us. I couldn't get the default Asus rt-ac87u stock firmware to let me see machines on a remote LAN behind the router implemented as an OpenVPN server, even though I could ping the VPN itself. Not being a network engineer, I gave up after failing to find an answer after a couple of days of searching. This is why finding the Easiest Tunnel article was such a relief.

About that, I do have a couple of points of feedback in that article to help bring it up to date. Nothing major:
1. Step 16 doesn't actually say to enter an IP or why any particular ip range should be entered... it is implied, but not consistent with the directness of the other instructions.

2. page 12: the screenshot has a checkbox for the kill switch behavior, but that does not appear on a windows 10 home (updated) machine nor a win 11 pro (updated) machine, with wireguard client version 0.5.3. I haven't tried other versions, but that was the latest available.

3. Page 13 - the screenshot looks different than that of the latest dd-wrt server (: DD-WRT v3.0-r55009 std (01/23/24) ). Also the tutorial does not say to hit save/apply at the end. There were some other minor differences in the actual GUI and screenshots in the tutorial..

The most updated information on Wireguard and OpenVPN are in the "Advanced Networking" forum:

Sticky: WireGuard guides and documentation
Sticky: OpenVPN guides and documentation

We're sorry that we don't have an AI supercomputer running to catch up on all the backlogged Wiki updates.

Apologies if you got a negative tone from my post, but I was merely respecting the request in the guides to "Please report your remarks, inconsistencies or questions" with the hope that it will be helpful to improve the situation. If you prefer that I do not provide such feedback and have no plan to even log it.. well that is more time for me I guess.

No negative tone inferred. The Wiki is not maintained by paid staff, it is an ongoing all-volunteer effort and currently, there isn't anyone besides myself doing any edits. Of course, you post a new thread instead of adding to Sticky: WIKI: create account / edits, which leads me to believe that obviously you haven't taken the time to actually do any reading before posting, which is noted as a must many places in the community, including the Wiki. No harm, no foul, and your feedback is noted, appreciated, and placed on the ever-growing pile of to-dos. Take care now.

Yet I still just now pushed your request and added notes to those Wikis to point to the forum stickies regarding WireGuard and OpenVPN documentation, regardless of the misunderstanding. Have a nice day. Take care now.

He's Texan - you're lucky he didn't say "Bless your little heart."
Apparently that's like the F-word for Texans.

So many Texans!
Didn't know there were so many here from that small state.
