Services, WDS AP 5GHz, AP 2.4, SMB, Inadyn, DHCP, DNS, Guest VAPs,

Build looks good, SMB Writes no longer appear to be causing issues from windows (though only a cursory test), SMB Responsiveness seems to need a few more minutes than 54682 after everything starts up but can live with that.

Thanks BS

Netgear r7800 - the issue persists in this build (55363). Transfer of even a small file from Windows 10 Pro x64 computer to router-mounted 64 GB thumb drive causes a full reboot of the router.

r9k is k4.9, so may be different. But was able to CRUD of 16MB file on connected USB Sata SSd, no issues.

New Build - 03/13/2024 - r55363 "BRICKED" MY EA8500, by sending it into the dreaded boot loop and I had to take it apart and use the USB Serial UART Thankfully I put it on my Mesh AP as a test and not my EA8500 that is the internet gateway for my IOT. I had to restore the router TWICE with the method described at https://mrjcd.com/EA8500_DD-WRT/ because I was stubborn enough to try flashing r55363 again. I went back to 9/8/23 r53469 which is stable for me but the 2.4 GHz is terrible. Thus I use another router (the Archer C7v4 I replaced with the EA8500) as AP for 2.4GHz. I never take time to post on here, meaning maybe I posted 3 or 4 times since 1998. I used to always be able to flash any "beta" firmware release without ever worrying that it would "brick" a router. If anything, maybe there was some issue that made me revert back to previous known good version. I have two of these routers. I have had at least 2 nightmares with both of them. I recently discovered that for some reason they don't like the restore to default via firmware instead of the button.

Example:
I also flashed my Archer C7s and it appeared to be good but STP stopped working correctly and there were looping conditions and thus I reverted back to 8/13/22 r49681 which has been stable for me. My point here is I put 55363 on four Archer C7v4 routers. My Ubiquiti consol started showing the DHCP looping issue BUT THE ROUTERS DID NOT BRICK.

At the risk of being rude (but I am just being honest). I am now afraid to trust any firmware upgrades with DD-WRT ever since deciding to buy 2 of these EA8500s. I think that once the router is stable and working for months without issue, one should not have to worry about a newer update actually bricking the router.

I am not one to upgrade my routers for sake of doing upgrades but I thought it might be nice to try to get into 2024. Obviously I can't trust it. Take this as you will. I'll send another donation when I can. Limited income here...thus I look for routers in recycling center dumpsters.

It always pays to have a little look around to know what's going on and know that the EA8500's current status is not good for DD-WRT:

EA8500 and other models not booting after 53562 builds

Full reset and rebuild of EA8500 Gateway Router [r53562]

Complaints noted.

Normally this router would have booted back to a working partition after 3 failed attempts. However with k6.1 builds, this doesn't happen (a 3x power cycle still works in this case however). Instead it goes through 5 reboots on the bad build, then resets NVRAM, and continues to attempt to boot from the bad build. It will eventually boot, after about 15-35 minutes. Then boots quickly and reliably every time, until you make any NVRAM (aside from UN/PW) changes. Then it starts all over again.

Early k6.1 builds would boot from partition 2, but not partition 1. This got reversed on a test build and has remained this way ever since.

Side note: I am going to back off from r53562 and see if my 2.4ghz wifi gets better, within the next day or two perhaps.

Router/Version: Netgear R7800 x 3
File/Kernel: DD-WRT v3.0-r55363 std (03/13/24)
Previous/Reset: DD-WRT v3.0-r55262 std (03/03/24), last reset at 54905
Mode/Status: Gateway (SFE disabled), Access Point (VANILLA firmware,2.4GHz, 5GHZ, WPA2/WPA3, 802.11r/v/k), IPV6 (DHCP6 w/ prefix delegation), Entware, DOT via SmartDNS/DNSMasq, OpenVPN server, Wireguard Server + 2 wired access points (VANILLA firmware,2.4GHz, 5GHZ, WPA2/WPA3, 802.11r/v/k)
Issues/Errors:
Up 21 hours. USB 3.0 working properly for Entware and "jffs" partitions. Wireguard and OpenVPN servers working as expected and throughput sufficient to open video files on network shares. Speed (tested via nPerf.com) is very close to published, both wired and wireless, which is equal or favorable to the ISP router. SFE remains disabled due to random reboots. Router LAN lights are working.

Seems to be working fine. Thanks BS for fixing the compile issue that was preventing the builds from being generated.

Thanks Brainslayer and Devs

Request: If you are reporting on SMB/USB success/failure, please state the drive format. Are these ext2/ext4 drives? Or are we talking one of the Windozy formats?
