Hello everyone,

I'm using the latest dd-wrt build, r49626, and have good results with it. I'm trying to get the longest distance possible with 5ghz wifi.

Does anyone have recommendations on antenna positioning on this router? Netgear seems to recommend all antennas be straight, which is how I currently have it. Obviously, they let you fool them for a reason.

Thank you in advance!

"r49626" is obviously not the last build and is 1.5 years old

We don't know what kind of router you have.
But routers use normal omnidirectional antennas.

that's why they are positioned vertically as they radiate horizontally

Unless you already have the router affixed to the ceiling, elevation of the antenna placement (in relation to connected devices) is a critical part of getting good signals. It's why antennas are usually placed on a hill or tower for that reason.

If you have a specific direction, get a directional antenna, like a yagi.

You could also buy other antenna hardware that has a higher gain (ie more directional vs omni)
