I've just completed the upgrade to my WRT54Gv3 Linksys Router and ran a Speed Test. Keep in mind that I've not had a chance to read through all the New settings for my newly improved DD-WRT. Here's the read with no changes to the router yet, I can just imagine the increase in speed when I do add the changes. These were usual speeds for me before the router upgrade as well, have a fast DSL ISP.

Where to go for information on how to configure my New Improved Router? Links....

These two last speed test have nothing to do with the DD-WRT speed test. Those are your internet connection speeds, not your router's speeds depending on the firmware. Please read before you post.

Today I did a little speed test too. I was quite disappointed with the speed that I got with DD-WRT compared with the original Linksys firmware.

I have a Linksys WRT54G v7.2 and a 100Mb/100Mb internet connection (fiber to the home) :)

Here are the results with the original Linksys firmware:

When I installed the DD-WRT micro it got:

And when I put the original firmware back:

All router settings were similar for all tests.

There is obvious something in the DD-WRT firmware that makes it slower than the original Linksys. Also the micro version does not offer that much extras. So I think I will stay with the original Linksys firmware.

Which firmware are you using? v23... v24 SP1...

(Just out of curiosity, how much are you paying for that FTTH connection?)

Edit: ARGH! Just checked it out. 39.99 euros for a 100/100 Mbps connection! My envy is roting my soul right now... :-P

I am using http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn10061/dd-wrt.v24-10061_NEWD_micro.bin.

Yes, I know that it is a good price for a very good speed Very Happy , but your link is not completely right (although related). This is the correct link http://www.onsbrabantnet.nl/portal/.

FWIW, my WRT54GL routinely supports internet data transfers at the maximum transfer rates my ISP will allow (10mbps down, 640kbps up).

These speeds are achieved when transferring data from the WAN port (cable modem with DHCP config) to any wireless client (802.11g) within my network.

I have not attempted to test wire speed 100mps WAN connection to find the upper limit of the WRT54GL's capability, but that could be an interesting experiment to conduct when time permits.

Do you have QoS enabled? QoS takes a lot of CPU when transferring big speeds. Other than that I guess that DD-WRT's implementation isn't the fastest one for slow CPUs like the ones in WRT54G/GL

Good point. I do not have QoS enabled.

Qos was / is disabled in both DD-WRT and Linksys.

I have the same problem with dd-wrt that slows down my internet speeds, I'll have to load up my router with a current build and post some speed test shots but it is quite noticeable when you have access to decent bandwidth :/

Damn. I, like jfk, also have FTTH, although a bit slower (more like 80mbps down / 10mbps up), and I'm looking for a router that will handle NAT'ing at this speed, even without QoS and using wired lan (not worried about speeds using wifi, barely use it).

I'm starting to wonder if there's a reasonably-priced router that is capable of doing this, but it seems I'll have to build a x86 box for this.

my dual wan setup using a WRT54GL v1.1 pulling from 2 cable modems each capable of 15megs down / 2megs up for a grand total of 30megs down/4megs up [did not test wireless abilities] but the router itself is more than capable [if overclocked to 250mhz].

Lucky

My GSv2 can't handle my 26mbits between two connections Sad Running at 228MHz right now.

During the download, my router is VERY unresponsive.

I did not get a top though, I will run again and get one.

My GL has hit about 2.2MBps or so over wireless and 3MBps over WAN.

WLAN to LAN = 22Mbps

Overclocked to 216Mhz (I got best results with this, higher clocks seem to result in lower performance)

125mW TX / build 12533

hello.

What's type of your internet connection - static ip/dhcp,
or pppoE, pptp, l2tp ?

----
I get on Dlink dir-320 (same bcm5354, 240 Mhz) 36-38 Mbits, In+out(but 90% traffic - In), pppoE , 200-400 sessions in conntrack table (torrents client), with dd-wrt rev.13064.

With hard QoS, ~100 rules for mark incoming traffic and ~100 for outgoing, I get 15-20 Mbits In+Out.
