Not worth the effort to replace the flash chips etc.

What'd be better is a bare bones 1 meg firmware to convert it to a WiFi to wired bridge to be used as a wireless extension/bridge to a wired network.

It is worth... 15 minute's time to remove, reprogram, and solder flash. A lot of people have old main boards containing bigger memory chips

I don't have the tools to remove and solder surface mount chips, or to program them.

Hello,
I would like to report that Netgear WGR 614 v6 if 100% compalible with dd-wrt (Linksys wrt54gv5). JTAG is working also.

Here are necessary links:

If WGR614v6 is compatible with the Linksys WRT54Gv5 are we able to use the upgrade instructions for that device, or does it have to be JTAG?

I mean can the Vx_prep procedure, VxKiller app be modded to work for this router?

On a side note, I managed to flash my router with generic netgear firmware, via changing the board id Smile

Is there a way to tell if its a 1mb or 2mb flash without opening the case?

I got someone offering me this but I'll wont get it if I can't put DD-WRT on it.

No. Both the 1mb and 2mb versions have the same model/fcc id. The only option is to unscrew the 4 screws under the rubber feet and get the numbers off the chip.

I've read probably 5 threads and about 2 dozen pages worth of info about this WGR614 v6. I must have passed over it, but how do I get DD-WRT on here?

Assuming I have the 2MB chip.

Can I do it from the GUI? TFTP? Jtag?

It appears to be Jtag only.

There are some resistors missing from the board that have to be replaced before Jtag will work.

Unfortunately 29lv800cttc-90g is the 1MB version.

Thank you. I couldn't seem to clearly figure out how people were doing it. I think jtag is a little too ambitious for what I want. I guess unless someone figured a TFTP method, I'll stick with the crappy stock firmware.

I have the WGR614 v6 TDC. I popped it open and am lucky enough to have the 160 chip that has the 2 MB Flash.

I have read through most of the installation files and this thread but what I am coming to is that there is not s simplish solution ATM.

Am I correct that there is not a way to get my router turned into a Wireless bridge ATM without having to solder?

If not could someone spell it out a little bit for me. I am intelligent and can follow directions well, but do not have much experience with this.

If it can be done but requires soldering and such could you break down what needs to be done for it to work? I have a friend at school who builds his own radio transmitters out of altoid boxes and chips he buys on the web. I bet he could help me change some chips on this board.

Thanks a lot,

Flaviss

Is there a firmware out yet for the WGR614v6? It still says its a work in progress but was wondering if anybody heard anything about the firmware. Thanks.
