Posted: Sun Jan 06, 2013 6:14 Post subject: DD-WRT reboots when gigabit switch connected
I have a Linksys E2000 running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/24/10) big - build 15962 (dd-wrt.v24-15962_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-e2k-e3k.bin). Its been up and running fine for almost a year and I have not had any problems until now. I had used up all four wired ports on the E2000 when I got a Blu-ray player that I needed to hook up to it as well. I bought a TP-Link TL-SG1005D five port gigabit switch to expand my ports, hooked it all up and all seemed fine. Everything communicated correctly for about an hour, then DD-WRT started rebooting the E2000. So now it seems to run OK for roughly an hour or so, then it just reboots on its own and just keeps repeating this cycle.
I have tried all combinations of all devices connected directly to the E2000 (without the switch) and DD-WRT works fine, so I don't believe it is any of them that is causing DD-WRT grief. It seems it must be the switch itself.
Any ideas why this TP-LINK switch could cause DD-WRT to reboot? Any settings in DD-WRT I could change or otherwise log/debug what is going on?

I should also add that without the switch connected I rarely see DD-WRT at more than a load average of 0.20. When the gigabit switch connected it can easily get above 0.50 if that gives a clue. Thanks!

Could it be that your router is getting overheated with the extra traffic?
Another thought, you might check the power supply on the router as the extra traffic might be causing more of a power draw (therefore causing your router to reboot). _________________ E3000 22200M KongVPN K26

Thanks for the help. I tried extra cooling (opened the case and used a fan to force air across it) and checked power supply voltages, but nothing helped. So as a last resort I flashed back to stock Linksys firmware and it has been running just fine with the 1GB switch. No reboots or anything. WiFi is stable as well. So it appears to me to directly DD-WRT related and not hardware related. Since I was just tinkering with DD-WRT and don't really need any fancy features, I'll just be staying with stock firmware for now. Plus I don't have much time to experiment right now, and the family grips when the network is down.
