Client Bridge Update: As a work-around for Client Bridge, I followed the instructions for a Repeater Bridge (=Client Bridge+AP), but ignored the Virtual Interfaces and applied a simplified version of the hack described at http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=686014 - just take down ra0, which kills the AP. This seems to work fine, except there's no status info in the GUI for the link (except the TX/RX counts), even though it's up and performs well.

For all those who have not been able to upgrade to dd-wrt from stock, here is the simplest way to do it

1. Add two private Static IPs to you network interface card 192.168.1.10 & 192.168.2.20

2. Connect the router via Ethernet cable to your system

3. Open Tftp software and fill in the fields
-Server 192.168.1.6
-Password 1234
-File Local directory path where image is saved

4. Turn off the router, press and hold reset button, turn on the router and wait for 12 seconds and then hit upgrade on tftp while holding reset button

5. You should see the progress of flashing. Once complete, revert the static IPs to automatic on interface card and restart the router.

6. dd-wrt webpage should be awaiting you at 192.168.1.1 Smile

Same procedure is for reverting to stock firmware. Works every time without any problem. Atleast worked for me smoothly Smile

But i have been facing a problem with PPPoE, it connects but then disconnects after every 8-10 seconds Sad BUT my WIFI LED works fine on dd-wrt firmware Smile I hope someone is looking at PPPoE problem.

Cheers!!!

I tried your way but it still cannot upload the tftp image to the router. Any thought?

This is what I did

Currently the IP is 10.0.0.1,
Firmware offical V1.76
Hardware Version Rev. A
Boot Code Version 1.0

Process:
In the router, I click "Configuration Tools" and " Restore to Factory Default", after promote password, It restores to default. IP becomes 192.168.2.1.

PC is assigned IP 192.168.2.100. Then I change router IP to 192.168.1.1 and it says successful then indicates 192.168.1.1. I manully assigned my pc IP to 192.168.1.100.

I then open tftp program downloaded from dd-wrt, input 192.168.1.6, password 1234, and select image.tftp. When I click upgrade, it trys 3 times and says:Unable to get responses from server.

I'm not sure where I did wrong. Would someone help?

There is a problem with ra0 hwmac is 00:11:22:33:44:55, how to fix it? And I found that even flashed it back to stock firmware, the wireless MAC is still 00:11:22:33:44:55. Crying or Very sad

Go to http://192.168.2.1/hwset.asp to change the MAC adress on your Edimax BR-6574n with original firmware.

Just for your information. If you generate a random wireless key. The key shouldn't contain quotes. Otherwise it BREAKES the router with original firmware.
(Even a hard reset doesn't bring it back to life - just flashing to ddwrt and than back to original firmware reanimates it.)

Just flashed with the latest firmware 20119. Sadly couldn't get the wireless going. Have gone back to 18007. Has anyone managed to get the wireless working with any of the firmwares issued since the beginning of this year? Seems such a shame as a new version for this wireless router is included in every release.

Any thoughts/hints/tips greatly received.

Thanks.

First: Which tftp software do you use? I cannot fill in the password anywhere.

Second: do you also have the rev A version?

Third: which dd-wrt version did you use? Can you provide a direct download link?

Hello

I have replaced the two 8MB ram chips in the br6574n with two 16mb chips
The device boots and works like before, but now i have some problems
making the software accessing it.
I have compiled the kernel with 32MB ram.( serial bootlog attached )
but it isn't enough, it seems that some modifications are necessary in the
u-boot area (recompile a 32mb version or some nvram/setenv parameters)

- can i use the u-boot command line to test/[re]detect the available memory ?
- are there methods for reflashing u-boot other than "mtd write" ?
- are there recovery options available after a corrupt u-boot upgrade ?
- has anyone done a successful jtag on the device ?

Any advice would be great, thx;
PS: sorry for the long post, i could upload it somewhere else if it is necessary

Firstly, a big thanks to kmmng, wili98 & gavinp (pg 18 ) for creating the means and summarizing the instructions to get DD-WRT onto the BR-6574n. I have HW Rev1.0A (recently bought), and got DD-WRT loaded first time. The Webflash up/downgrade on DD-WRT is also dead easy. Thanks also to others for identifying builds that actually work with this router.

I want to create a "Client Bridge" but do not see this option on the "Wireless-Basic Settings-Wireless Mode" drop down list.

The mode is carefully described here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Bridged, but is simply not in the GUI.
What has happened to it? Does anyone know?
I've seen a couple of posts elsewhere with the same question, but no answers yet.
The "Repeater Bridge" mode works, but I don't want the extra AP (with the same SSID, no choice)

The Airlink 101 AR670W is the same Ralink chipset, supported by DD-WRT and these guys too:
https://www.flashrouters.com/blog/2011/07/21/featured-dd-wrt-vpn-router-review-of-the-day-airlink101-670w/
It offers Client Bridge and the mode is clearly seen in this screenshot:
https://www.flashrouters.com/blog/2011/10/19/what-is-the-difference-between-client-bridge-wireless-repeater-modes-in-dd-wrt
BTW: This version (06/14/11) corresponds to R17201.

I switched to DD-WRT as the EDIMAX firmware (1.76) is pretty awful and I just couldn't make it work in Client Bridge mode. But now I'm stumped again.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I use Repeater mode in stock firmware instead and it works.

Please note that the above firmwares do not work. The router will not boot after the web flash. You can recover using tftp and an earlier image (e.g. 18007). It seems that future firmware releases for this router are now even less likely to be compatible as previously only the wireless did not work.

I did post a bug some time back and tried to pm BrainSlayer. Am not sure what else to do. I am a big fan of dd-wrt and happy to test with guidance. Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks,

I guess this pretty much means that dd-wrt is a no-go for me.

I bought one of these routers on eBay to try dd-wrt, but only checked the dd-wrt database for compatibility, and didn't expect such a flaw to be present.

My netgear 1000 has been relegated to modem-only functionality, and it has been connected for over 1000 hrs now. When I used it as a router, it would need resetting quite regularly.

I am currently using a pfSense VM within ESXI and using PPPOE to talk to the modem. Maybe I should just stick to that and forget dd-wrt.

Q. the dd-wrt entry for this router links to v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std - build 14896. Is there a later, better release, or am I wasting my time?

so i bit the bullet and got myself a usb-ttl cable. hooked it up and could see every time i was tftp'ing the file, it was getting a Bad CRC (tried a couple of different ones). when i put the original factory-to-ddwrt file on, it was going in a continuous boot cycle with kernel panic due to an invalid file system.

I also noticed it was reporting an error to erase block 34,0.

i thought i would be smart and use the manual "Erase All" command from the command prompt, thinking it would would erase the operating firmware, not the boot loader. evidently i seem to have erased the boot loader too as the unit does not even output the serial info now and wont respond to anything.

Have i f#cked it beyong repair? or is there someway i can get a firmware back on there?

I was wondering if the problem with wireless not working after v18007 can be fixed. What changed in the next version was this:

http://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset/18024

Which would seem to be very relevant to this problem.

Does anyone know what this file (rt2880.c) does? When compiled what does it end up as? Can we just swap the working one into the latest version (as its possible to extract, modify and repackage a firmware)? If not how do I compile from source to get this working for the Edimax?

Lots of questions I know!
