I offer my assistance in making the wiki entry.

I've been looking into the wiki editing and the wiki structure of the FON router, and it seems to me that someone has done quite a bit of work to keep a good structure about the FON (its even in three languages), so how to fit this in?

As the FON2100 flashing procedure seems like quite a long story, and since there is such a lot of structure in the FON section, I am thinking that it may be a good idea to make a seperate page for the FON2200 details.

Then when I go to the add-on sections to "initial Flashing" like:
- Resetting NVRAM
- Reflashing LaFonera original firmware
- Recovery of a non-responsive LaFonera
It seems like we would just have to repeat these sections. Or maybe we should make new pages for these sections, and just reference them from the "Initial flashing 2100" / "Initial flashing 2200"

Or should someone (noob like Shocked = ME) just make the decision, and then someone else can clean it up?

What do you guys think?

Sounds good for a collective effort to put this together. If you can put it together in a wiki, I can review it and offer suggestions for edit, if needed.

A Wiki sample is ready at: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/LaFonera_Software_Easy_Flashing

There is a ToDo section at the buttom of Wiki page where you could keep notes of what needs to be added, eddited, or what you would like to test next.

Wow. Actually looks great. I'll probably make only a few edits, but nothing major. Great job, and thanks.

If you're up for it, when I'm done creating the flash process info for the WRT54G2, I might PM you to create a wiki for it, as well.

Hi Doramius,
I have a question about upgrades for the FON2200. Your test have shown some problems upgrading using the web-GUI of DD-WRT. Did you see this page before? LaFonera Software Upgrade-Flashing

It draws a line for using the GUI with version 2007 - 0117 and older or newer.

Also I have the question: Which is the newest dd-wrt version you can find that works with Fon2200. Do you know?

I only have FON2100 versions, and have just ordered the new Fonera+ version, as FON2200 are no longer for sale at shop.fon.com.
I know the FON+ may be a whole different ball of wax, but we'll see. Maybe I'll just use that one for keeping my fonera promise - to continually share some Internet.

I'm using DD-WRT v24 RC-6 [Found HERE

I tried using the final or RC-7 but it was a bit buggy. It would drop signal, would accept commands, etc.

I tried the GUI method listed, but the router kept bricking. It became non-responsive. If it works for you, use the method I posted to revive it, as I was able to bring it back each time.

My guess is that the "fonera-firmware.bin file is supposed to affect the Root file system AND install the new update. When I did it, it wouldn't work.

I did get my MAX232 chip. I decided to get a little kit for my RS-232 to TTL converter. I also built a JTAG module for both 20 & 10-pin connections. I put it all in the same enclosure.

Not the prettiest thing, but it'll do what i need it to do.

As for the LaFonera+. The $29.95 LaFonera IS the 2200, from what I understand. The LaFonera+ is the 2201, and from what I've seen online, the 2 are virtually identical, but the 2201 has a WAN port built in. I would venture to say that the process to flash the 2201 would be similar to the 2200. However, There might be a change in the firmware to where you'll need to adjust the SSH setting. I don't have a 2201 to play with to verify this, though.

Hello! have you done any improvements with your easy-flash method?

Reading here and there it's confirmed that for going past RC6 versione there is the need to access Redboot..

I'm looking into it. I did redboot into RC7, hoping to find a fast method for it. Unfortunately, my unit wasn't acting very stable. I'm not exactly sure why. I have 3 of these 2200's and they all had the same issue. Sometimes I'd log in, and it would freeze going to another page, the connections kept dropping intermittently, wired or not. I went back to an earlier version...and all was well. Confused It has not been my high priority, but it is something I am working on.

Uhm so, all right!

I would just add, after spending some time trying the Redboot method it worked will little effort; the trouble is just to "hit" the router wit terminal connection at the very right moment lasting less than 2 second; to my (small) eyes serial cable is not "absolutely" necessary, it's a good tech improvements thou!

But to all stuck here trying to upgrade to something like V24-SP1 the redBoot method is no pain at all once you get the right timing Wink

update: fon_flash from Gargoyle works Great!!!!

This program is based on AP51 flash you will need also WinPcap for Windows users.

http://www.gargoyle-router.com/wiki/doku.php?id=fon_flash

Get WinPcap here:
http://www.winpcap.org/install/bin/WinPcap_4_1_2.exe

Windows VISTA users need also to install MSVC++ from Micr*soft it's free.

The member Orange has described a fantastic step-by-step that works 100% with the fon 2100 !!!!

All credits goes to him !!!! >>>>RESPECT<<<<

Quote:
1st step: Setup your PC with IP 169.254.255.2, Netmask 255.255.0.0, Gateway&DNS 169.254.255.1 and connect via ethernet to the fon
2nd step: Boot the fon and access the admin interface at 169.254.255.1 (fon firmware 0.7.1r1 or below)
3rd step: Save the following as "sshenable.htm", open it with your webbrowser and hit submit
Code:
Code:
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
<center>
<form method="post" action="http://169.254.255.1/cgi-bin/webif/connection.sh " enctype="multipart/form-data">
<input name="username" value="$(/etc/init.d/dropbear)" size="68" >
<input type="submit" name="submit" value="Submit" onClick="{this.form.wifimode.value='";' + this.form.wifimode.value +';"'}" />
</form>
</body>
</html>
4th step: Use PuTTY to ssh in at 169.254.255.1 and execute
Code:
mv /etc/init.d/dropbear /etc/init.d/S50dropbear

5th step: Download these two files and HFS
http://fonera.info/camicia/openwrt-ar531x-2.4-vmlinux-CAMICIA.lzma
http://fonera.info/camicia/out.hex
http://www.rejetto.com/hfs/download
6th step: Reboot the fon and ssh back in (ssh access is now permanent due to step 4)
7th step: Host openwrt-ar531x-2.4-vmlinux-CAMICIA.lzma and out.hex with HFS locally
8th step: Execute these code tags while connected via ssh
Code:
cd /tmp
wget http://169.254.255.2/openwrt-ar531x-2.4-vmlinux-CAMICIA.lzma
mtd -e vmlinux.bin.l7 write openwrt-ar531x-2.4-vmlinux-CAMICIA.lzma vmlinux.bin.l7
reboot

Code:
cd /tmp
wget http://169.254.255.2/out.hex
mtd -e "RedBoot config" write out.hex "RedBoot config"
reboot

Don't interrupt the redboot patching!!! Otherwise you'll have a bricked device.

Now you can flash dd-wrt or openwrt or whatever with Fon Flash or better manually Smile

HTH orange
