Hi,

I'd like to know user opinions on the most stable DD-WRT revision for DIR-300. I've started with v24-sp1 and experienced those strange http errors. I've then switched to 11898 which is the most stable (it makes uptime to 3 days). Today I've found a new revision - 12188 and it looks like it's completely useless as it prevents accessing WAN after one to four hours of uptime.

Therefore I would like to know which dd-wrt revision is the most stable up to date. I know there are lots of DIR-300 users, so it would be nice to know your opinion.

I had an Airlink AR-430W (Atheros chipset - DIR-300 clone)

I gave it away to a buddy as I've upgraded to wireless-N.

I left build dated 03/03/09 on it - seemed to work for me, no issues.

Remember to lower the # of max connections to 2048
or even 1024 to save some memory.

Also, depending how many computers, set the DHCP
clients to max 25

Disable traffic daemon and CRON to save additional memory

after doing all that - REBOOT the router, then
check free mem - should have plenty available.

Thanks for your tips.

I've already lowered max connections to 2048, DHCP clients and turned off cron. However, I can't find traffic deamon - where is it located and how important it is?

Its under Services tab, services sub-tab, all the way at the bottom

Wan Traffic daemon.

Disable if you don't care about monitoring.

I also never used QoS

You can also disable the DNSMasq service to help save some ram.

I've switched traffic daemon off also.
After rebooting I have ~700 - 1600 kb of free mem.

I need QoS as I occasionally play games and some of my flatmates use p2p.

Isn't DNSMasq required if you're dividing internet connection on several machines?

I've switched DNSMasq off but it keeps switching on after reboot. Clicking on apply or save doesn't prevent it from switching back to on.

This is very, very strange. Maybe we are using different DIR-300 revisions or I'm using some really sophisticated settings (which I doubt as my knowledge about this stuff is really limited).

Btw. the latest rev. is giving me constant router reboots.

That seems to speed up things a bit.

How much is it safe to overclock this router?

Yes, my router is overclocked to 200MHz too! You should not go over 200MHz.
