Greetings.
I got me a router - TL-WR840N v. 6.2. Tried looking around, the only thing I could find for this particular version are some badly outdated advices for OpenWRT installations, and the firmware links are all expired.

This device is not currently supported, hardware donation usually required to add support. Only the v1 (Atheros - Chinese Market) is currently supported.

4 years ago, BrainSlayer was still using an old i7-powered machine for the build server and compiling firmware images took much longer. The device in this thread is a 4/32 device:
QCA = Qualcomm Atheros. Which functionality do you seek? Considering this is a 4MB flash/32MB RAM device, at most you would have PPTP and/or Wireguard, but no OpenVPN. _________________ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

In the end, after several failed attempts*, I installed OpenWRT on MikroTik RB941-2nD (that I also had laying around). It was the first time in my life that I saw OpenWRT, and it took some time to get accustomed to it, but I managed to use it for the things I needed DD-WRT for.
As for the TL-WR840N - I re-purposed it as range extender (a role it can do out of the box).

* Version 19 (the latest supported according to wikia (https://openwrt.org/toh/mikrotik/rb941-2nd)) would run kernel image ok, but could not perform system upgrade. I used version 18 kernel and upgrade, then upgraded to version 19.
