I have no problem trying someing new if you want to test it to see if it works. Seems to me we about have all the bugs worked out of the mini so lets see if the other will work.

I checked all the pins and they are all good, none bent or missing. It must just be a dead port. I wish I could get someone to send me a copy of the original firmware, its not looking like the tech support section of Dynex knows what they are doing.

I guess we did it all now. But let me know if you find some other glitch.

Flash this, restore to defaults.... enjoy!!!

Thanks again for the help. I'll give this a try and let you know how it works.

Now that I am a little more comfortable playing with these things I am going to purchase a AIRLINK101 AR725W and see if it will work.

Thanks again.

Update:
The version number of my routers board is 01, the Broadcom BCM4704 speed is @264 MHz, voltage input is 12 Volts and it supports b/g/n.

Update:
When I try to change the wireless channel dd-wrt automaticly changes the setting back to auto before saving changes, not sure if this is a firmware issue or if the user is broken but thought I would let you know. Ok I played with it somemore and found out it was a broken user... I had the Channel Width on auto and this was causing the channel to switch back to auto.

Silly question; when I set my router up as a bridge why is the channel on my dd-wrt router always 2 channels lower or higher than my primary router .i.e. main router set to channel 10 and client changes to 8, then when I change my main router to 2 my client changes to 4…

I just got a used Dynex DX-NRUTER. It has original stock firmware; but won't let me flash dd-wrt with the web interface. Anyone here with the right serial cable want to flash it for me? Maybe in the process you can get a backup of the original firmware too?

Alcuin,

You don’t need a serial or JTAG cable, you can TFTP into it and push the update through your cat 5 wire using HyperTerminal. The directions on how to do this are on page 3 in the 3rd post from the bottom. If you have trouble let me know and I will see if I can put together some better instructions for you.

Ah ok, thanks for the info, I will try tftp. Thought I needed to jtag it over. While I'm in tftp, are there any commands I can run to backup the existing firmware?

I'm sorry, either I'm dumb or I'm missing something. I checked the Dynex DX-NRUTER.txt file attached in the third from bottom post on the third page, and all I see are commands that seem to have been run only after dd-wrt has been installed, eg
root@DD-WRT:~# nvram get boardnum

Likewise with the wrtrouters.com page at http://www.wrtrouters.com/guides/monitoring/ it mentions turning on telnet in dd-wrt; but the stock firmware won't let me telnet in, so using hyperterminal to tftp the firmware over ip doesn't seem likely. It seems my only option is serial or jtag I think, unless I've totally missed something.

Sorry it looks like I missed a step. Use this file will let you push the file over tftp.

Update:
Sorry had to zip the file to attach it.

Hmm, i'm having trouble with flashing using TFTP.

I'm running TFTP2.exe and putting in the server as 192.168.2.1 (default) and the password (which i had changed) but it gives me the "unable to get response from the server" error every time.

Am i missing something???

Are you trying to start it flashing as the router is booting up? You need to pull the power, soon as you connect the power again, keep trying to connect, eventually you'll hit the sweet spot and it'll flash.

I used the mini build initially, I'm not sure if that's necessary, but I did as a precaution. Then I flashed the full build from the dd-wrt web interface once the mini was up.

I'm indeed doing it while powercycling the router, and i'm using the build eko posted above on this page. Just doesn't seem to want to catch. Manually set the IP as well, of course.

Try it again with the password blank. If that don't work try it with "admin" as the password. The password for TFTP may not be the same as the one you set. I honestly don't remember what I put in for mine.
