Sounds like you need to get a serial port on it to see what exactly is happening and recover it. From what I've seen and read, it should be able to be recovered, barring unforeseen hardware issues.

I think I know what is happening with your router; I just had the same thing on mine but it turns out it was just the reset button being stuck...was really starting to make me worry until I unstuck it

Good call..

That happened to me many months ago. When I was holding the reset button, it kinda tipped to one side getting stuck on the side of the hole in the enclosure.

Never noticed it till I took it apart.

for me I tried to hit the button again and noticed it was not going in any more....took a big breath of relief when it started moving again Very Happy
I knew it was something stupid like that because I just hit reset to clear settings before flashing

Just checked the reset button, but nothing happens. Its not stuck. I think the only way is by Serial POrt.

As you've figured out, you need to 'break into' the boot process.

For me, control-C doesn't always work. I used control-break from windows and it works with my wrt160. Try hitting that over and over as soon as you power up the router.

Another possibility is that your serial port has a working "Tx->Rx" connection (Transmit on the router hooked to the computer's receive line), but that the other connection is not working. In this case, what you're typing on the computer is not reaching the router.

Once you're in, use this:
Code:
nvram erase
nvram commit

Then remove power, plug it back in, and wait. Give it a few minutes. Watch the progress on the serial port.

Right after the segfault on the output you provided, I notice:
Quote:
Dante's tiny TFTP Server is ready on port 69

You could try to watch the serial output, and initiate a tftp command to upload new firmware right when you see that. I don't think the problem is the firmware per se, but the nvram. Uploading new firmware will reset the nvram.

Hi.

I now have access to the console, could send commands now! I thougt that the RX of the router could be faulty, but it was not, was windows OS crap! Wink

I tried in two windows machines (XP and Vista)with no success. But then i tried in a Linux (Ubuntu 8.10) with minicom, and the CRTL-C worked like a charm :)

I make the following commands:

Code:
nvram erase
nvram commit

then reboot, but no success. Still the same output.

in the help of the console wrt600n there is a flash command, and in description it says that it can upload new firmware. Anyone know how to work with it?

Is the wireless working on this WRT600N ?
I have read through this thread, but I could not paint a complete picture.
When I first flashed DD-WRT into my WRT600N to replace the original Linksys firmware, the LAN ports were dead but the wireless was fine. I had used the WRT600N firmware file posted in the Wiki .. but I am sure it was a little old.
At that point, I had no choice but to 30/30/30 and flash a newer DD-WRT build via wireless. Then everything was fine.
So if you're fighting dead/no-ping LAN ports, then see if you have an operational wireless signal.

Isn't the code "erase nvram" not "nvram erase"?
If you erase nvram, no need to commit. You would want to erase nvram & then reboot

erase nvram
reboot

Once you get the nvram cleared it should accept pings at least on initial boot. Then you shjould be able to use that window to tftp the firmware.
