Hi there,
ive got a problem to solve...
I have to establish a wlan connection in every room of a little hotel .
I got 1 DSL Router and 4 Linksys WRT54GLs with DDWRT v23 SP1 installed on it.
Tell me if iam wrong but i will try to solve it this way...connect the first WRT with a lan cable to the Router
- connect the first and the second DDWRT via WDS
- connect the second and the third DDWRT via WDS
- connect the third and the fourth DDWRT via WDS

Yes it will work, but it is much better to connect the three remote units to the primary one. Try to put the primary router in the center of the building and connect as many remotes to it as you can. _________________ http://69.175.13.131:8015 Streaming Week-End Disco. Station Ripper V 1.1 will do.

the problem with your suggestion i think is that i cannot put the first WRT in the middle because there is no cable connection to the router from the middle ...
you can imagine the building like a tunnel with curves, at the start is the Router with cable binded first WRT then the signal should hop between the following WRTs till the end of the building...

I have an identical setup to what you are setting up. I can get about 1.3 Mbps internet speed from a client connected wirelessy to the 3rd repeater. My internet connection is 10 Mbps. The problem with so many repeaters is that each radio will add latency.
With a 54 Mbps connection rate between all radios your theoretical bandwidth limit with 3 sequential repeaters is 3.375 Mbps, but the extra latency will subtract more.
If any link is slower than 54 Mbps then the end of the chain starts getting real slow. Turn on frame bursting on all radios. It will help by about 10%. _________________ http://69.175.13.131:8015 Streaming Week-End Disco. Station Ripper V 1.1 will do.
i just can tell it out of the head because i have no WRT here atm... but i think i have to connect the WRTs with the Mac Adress and the "LAN" option in the " Wireless-> WDS" options..
and there just putting in the next WRT and so on....correct ?

i got another WRT question if you please, i think iam going to install the WRTs next week but iam still not sure how to manage the DHCP settings... what should i prefer..
- every WRT manages his own DHCP range
- only one WRT manages DHCP
- the Router manage it an all WRT are just forwarding
