Hi everyone! I recently updated the firmware on my old Linksys router that I'm repurposing and for some reason when I update the SSID it changes in the UI, but not the actual SSID.
It shows up as "DD-WRT" (whatever the router name is set to) instead of what I set the SSID at. I'm trying to update from 44715 to 48352 using the broadcom generic firmware. I tried both the standard and mini versions as well as different versions from earlier this year with the same result. I've also tried rebooting a few times and turning the SSID broadcast on and off without any luck.
Any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks!
BONUS: Apparently, I'm also running into issues where having the router plugged in is causing my mouse to go crazy when connected to an external monitor from my Surface 4 Pro laptop... If I unplug the monitor, mouse is normal. If I unplug the router but have the monitor plugged in, mouse is normal. Monitor + router plugged in = crazy mouse
First thing I would do since you did not mention it... basically hold reset button for 30 seconds and then after it comes back online configure to your liking and see what happens. _________________ Primary Router: Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 /w dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic (r46640 May 13th 2021) ; new Panasonic capacitors Feb 11th 2020 | Backup Router: Linksys WRT54GS v6 /w dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic (r46640 May 13th 2021)
Thanks for the suggestion! I did try setting everything to defaults from the UI. Not using the reset button though. Just gave it a go and unfortunately same result
I see. I am using r46640 (from May 13th 2021) and my Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 works fine as I changed my SSID and it works as expected as devices see it as the one I changed it to.
I might eventually update to a newer build though as when I do, ill almost surely see if I experience the same as you do. I know there have been roughly a few OpenSSL security fixes since the build I am using, but I don't know the details on how much it would have a effect on DD-WRT. but you can try the build I am using just to see if the SSID issue goes away as I suspect the build I am using is probably secure enough still. _________________ Primary Router: Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 /w dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic (r46640 May 13th 2021) ; new Panasonic capacitors Feb 11th 2020 | Backup Router: Linksys WRT54GS v6 /w dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic (r46640 May 13th 2021)
Just tried your build. Everything seems to be working perfectly with it so far (although, I'm still running into issues with the cursor jumping around when it's on. I tried a keyboard from a Surface Pro 7 I had lying around and it seemed to work fine with that. This is a completely separate issue though).
Interestingly enough though, when I tried to update the firmware from the UI, the router restarted and showed it was running the same version as before. Meaning, it really didn't update the firmware. I ended up having to use the tftp recovery method to flash the new one.
I may try flashing a few other builds to see when this issue first started to appear. I'd also be curious to know if anyone else is encountering this issue with a WRT54GL
It looks like things start breaking in builds towards the end of January 2022. However, I seem to have an issue where no matter what January build I use now, it shows up as firmware r47961 (01/05/22). If I use an earlier build from 2021 or a build from February 2022 it shows up correctly. Any ideas with this?
I ran into the same issues with early 2022 builds on my 54GL. I mentioned it in one of the build threads, but didn’t pursue it any longer and pulled the router. I may try the 2/15/22 build to see if that works correctly now… _________________ ASUS RT-AC3100 AP Merlin 386.12_4

Apparently this is still a issue given the recent Feb 20th 2022 build comment here from user 'Aar'... https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1258476#1258476 _________________ Primary Router: Linksys WRT54GS v1.1 /w dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic (r46640 May 13th 2021) ; new Panasonic capacitors Feb 11th 2020 | Backup Router: Linksys WRT54GS v6 /w dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic (r46640 May 13th 2021)
Glad to know I'm not the only one experiencing this issue then
It 'might' be fixed on r48425 (Feb 24th 2022) given the following comment from user 'stts'...
"Got 3 [WRT54G] units running but not doing much. No PCs connected but each with Pro Trump SSIDs broadcasting from the wireless. Hah. Thats mostly my motivation to get these running. Now my TV has 5 "we are doomed" type labels that show up on all networks in my vicinity. Hah."
