Hello,

I own three WG302v1 and just successfully installed and activated DD-WRT version r16785 (04/09/11) from BrainSlayers directory on one of them.
Everything is working fine, but I noticed that the config-backup function doesn't work properly: I get an empty nvrambak.bin file.

It would be great, if this could be fixed - I'm planning to install DD-WRT on the two remaining devices as well.

Thanks for your excellent work!

Sorry, false alarm - the backup function seems to work after activation or using a different browser!

Hi plankswert,

I'm having the same trouble. It appears the Redboot v1.6 on some WG302s has an extended "loadBootcode" command that conflicts with the normal "load" command as redboot doesn't know if "load" refers to "load" or "loadBootcode". Clever huh? I'd like to meet the genius who added loadBootcode to the command list on this redboot build.
If anyone knows how to force Redboot to accept an exact command please pipe up but I believe that for now anyone with this issue is trapped with Netgear's firmware Sad

I am attempting to do this and had a few questions about Shaz's method. I'm using a WG302v2:

Shaz wrote:
Just got my hands on one of these AP's. Found some stuff that might help others. To answer pic.micro23 you need to find the start of your free memory address. When you CTRL-C into the console look for
Code:

RAM: 0x00000000-0x10000000, 0x0001f9b8-0x0ffd1000 available

Whatever is in the spot '0x0001f9b8' you need to use as your starting memory address. That was mine.

is the starting memory address I am looking for to be substituted in for 0x01600000 as seen here?:

Shaz wrote:
NOTE: 0x01600000 is what I found netgear to be using when installing there own firmware.

2. load -b 0x01600000 -m tftp -h 192.168.0.36 -r linux.bin
3. fis create linux
4. fconfig
4a.When prompted to type a script for bootup type:

fis load -b 0x01600000 linux <press enter>
exec 0x0160004c <press enter, then enter again to finish>

Also, I noticed that in this step:

Shaz wrote:

...that the final option is a y/n question about applying settings. Should I be pressing enter to skip this too, or should I press Y? Thanks in advance!

I have tested that during about 1h on the 24h trial period ... And I have only 1 question after that, how can you sell that ???

DD-WRT crash each 2min and reboot !
On the serial console, I can see only error message each 5sec. What is that seriously ?
All free versions which I have tested are very stable and the version which you sell are unusable ? :/

For information, I have a WG302 V1 if someone have the same problem than me with this router ? (I have try almost all firmware available since the first release to the last and no one work better than other.)

Thank you !

Hi Guys,

I have a WG302 V2 and have followed this seemingly without issue. All commands seem to be accepted but for some reason the firmware won't auto load on bootup.

I have to enter the following through the console in order to get it to boot the firmware every time I reboot the AP:

fis load linux
exec

I'm doing this for a friend and he doesn't have console access or knowledge so I want to get it to auto load if possible. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or how I can fix this?

Cheers Mandlebrot

I can't seem to get my WG302v2 to boot after running through the instructions on this thread.

Watching the console, I can see it run the startup script I specified then it just says the following:

Code:
Using base address 0x01600000 and length 0x006f3000
$T050f:0160004c;0d;0000b340;#44

Then it just hangs boot. Any keypresses in the console result in the $T050f... line being repeated.

Does anyone have any ideas?

You forgot to put the
fis load linux
exec -c "console=ttyS0,9600 root=/dev/mtdblock2"

line in the script section of fconfig and save it

This AP WG302 v2 does not work with any of the 2014 firmwares as they are too big.

The last firmware I could get to load was "DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/24/13) - build 23204 "

The Setup:

Hardware needed
Null modem cable. DB9 Female on both ends.
Ethernet cable.
Either the r v1 or v2. WG302 access point.

Look for and download :
(1) Putty :- (this is used as terminal for console and logging redboot commands)
(2) Tftpd32 :- (this is ran as a server on the pc)
(3) Linux.bin :- WG302 v2 - Firmware - Console image for installation via RedBoot
(title makes it sound like RedBoot is an additional program that's needed but
its built into the image)

Preparation

Connect the Ethernet cable to the access point and the computer. Set your computer IP
address to 192.168.0.36 and subnet mas to 255.255.255.0

Connect the serial null modem cable to the access point and the computer.
Install a Tftpd32 client and place linux.bin (WG302 v2 Firmware - Console image for installation
via RedBoot) in the root of your computer drive C:

Setup Tftpd32

Select settings
GLOBAL TAB
set as followed: - untick everything excepting TFTP Server and TFTP Client

TFTP TAB
set as followed: - Base Director: C:\ | TFTP Security: none| Time out:3| Max Retransmit:10|
Tftp port:69| leave everything else as default.

HIT OK close and reopen

Setup Putty

(1) Windows 7 – right click Computer (located in the start menu)
select "properties" /select "Device manager" / click the drop down arrow next to "Ports (COM & LPT)"
see what your COM port number is (minds was COM1)

(2) Goto Putty on the left side select "Serial" in the right pannel set as follows:
"Serail line to connect to"(put you COM port)| Speed: 9600|data bus: 8|Stop bit: 1|Parity none|
Flow control: none|

(3) on the left side select "Window" in the right pannel set as follows:
|line of scrolback: 500000|

(4) on the left side select "Session" in the right pannel set as follows:
|select Serial| Saved Sessions: giveany name you wish|click:save|

(5) HIT OPEN

OK you are ready

Unplug the access point and plug it back in. Once plugged in keep hitting ctrl+c until you get the redboot
console comes up.

Once redboot console comes up
NOTE This RAM: 0x00000000-0x10000000, 0x0001f9b8-0x0ffd1000 available
Whatever number is in the location of this above number (0x0001f9b8) use it in the bellow commands

Also 0x0001f9b8 number convert to decimal e.g. (129464) subtract 76 take the answer e.g.( 129388) reconvert
to hex if it looks like this (0x1f96C) make it this (0x0001f96C) to match the length of the original.
used at 7 bellow (exec 0x0001f96c)

In its terminal:
1. fis init -f
2. Type the letter 'y' without the quotes
3. ip_address -l 192.168.0.228/24 -h 192.168.0.36
4. load -b 0x0001f9b8 -m tftp -h 192.168.0.36 -r linux.bin
5. fis create linux
6. fconfig
7. hit enter until prompted to type a script for Bootup
type:
fis load -b 0x0001f9b8 linux <press the enter button>
type:
exec 0x0001f96c <press the enter button>
<press enter, then enter again >

5. press enter to the rest of the options until it ask if to reload with setting type 'y' without the quotes and hit enter wait for it to finish.
6.type reset and hit enter

Disconnect from hyper terminal and setup a new session with a 115 baud rate so the text is readable.

Now you should see it started in the available wifi connections. Connect to it. Go to 192.168.1.1. What a trial? current coding crack.

source Driusha (copy paste i also tested and it worked)

1. Install TFTP server into your system.
2. Download fresh firmware from netgear.com.
3. Untar it.
4. rename rootfs.bin to rootfs.bin.gz then unzip if and copy rootfs.jffs2 to root of the TFTP server also copy kernel.bin to root of the TFTP server.
5. In RedBoot:

RedBoot> fis init -f
RedBoot> load -r -b %{FREEMEMLO} kernel.bin
RedBoot> fis create -r 0x01900000 -e 0x01900000 -l 0x000C0000 kernel
RedBoot> load -r -b %{FREEMEMLO} rootfs.jffs2
RedBoot> fis create -r 0x00800000 -e 0x00800000 -l 0x006A0000 rootfs
RedBoot> fconfig

add the two lines to start up script
fis load kernel
exec -b 0x01900000 -l 0x00100000 -c "console=ttyS0,9600 root=/dev/mtdblock2 rw rootfstype=jffs2"

6. hit enter to everything else except the last step asking if to reload settings type y hit enter

7. type reset hit enter done
