Hi, i flashed my fone*a+ with v24sp1, and i am using it just as wired router ( with wireless turned off). I overclocked it to 220Mhz, but the maximum speed that i can reach is around 15Mbit/s. Is it normal ? My ISP gives me a 30Mbit/s and i reach it when i plug the cable directly to my PC.
If not overclocked about 100%, SSH session freezes and the traffic is 11 - 12 Mbit/s. If overclocked to 220Mhz the load is about 85 - 90%, SSH session is working ( but slowly ), the traffic is about 14 - 15Mbit/s. The main process that loads the router is: [ksoftirqd/0]
Do you know some cheap router that I could use to archieve the 50Mbps using dd-wrt?
my modem is actually a modem-router netgear (CBVG834G), and I couldn't find any 3rd party firmware that has QoS like ddwrt to flash into my modem-router...
My main goal is have QoS running in my network since I need to assure the bandwidth for a certain port.
ksoftirqd/0 used less CPU, but IRQ load stil reaching almost 100%. Now I get 17-18Mbps instead of 14-15... but still far from my 50Mbps
To get 50Mbps or close to it you need an embedded board. Newer routers flashed w/ dd-wrt can also work but they are a bit unstable right now. And w/ such speeds, the 32MB of ram may not be enough and wireless usage consumes quite a bit of cpu also.
An older PC w/ a couple high quality NICs can also work (avoid via or realtek chipset NICs as they consume CPU). If your speeds go beyond this, Layer 3 Cisco switches, are basically functional equivalents of routers using its asic hardware for switching rather than the cpu+firmware of routers. I recommend an older 1.2GHz-2.0GHz PC for your high speed routing needs. I'm assuming you'll also need various other services running which require additional cpu. Alix and Soekris may get you close to 50Mbps + an Atheros-based mini-pci card w/ nothing else running. The F*nera has a VERY slow cpu not suitable for your needs.
