I have Netgear WNDR3300.
If I use dd-wrt as NA-Only/N-Only the network is recognized as 802.11a, instead of 802.11n. Why is that?
When I was using the original firmware the network was recognized as 802.11n
The speeds are OK, but anyway the vista shows the network as A

NA is the 5ghz I believe....N only is 2.4 Ghz, IIRC.

It doesn't matter whether 2.4 or 5 Ghz ... vista still says the network is 802.11a

Maybe you need to change a setting on your Wifi Adapter. What adapter do you have?

Weird that is the same NIC I have in my laptop and it is seeing the router as N router. What build number are you using by the way? Maybe this is having an effect.

EDIT: Also, did you do Hard Resets on your router before and after loading firmware?

DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/21/09) mini - build 12188M NEWD Eko
I did hard resets, before and after the flash. The router is properly recognized by the firmware.
This is the output of netsh on my laptop:
Code:

SSID 1 : dd-wrt
    Network type            : Infrastructure
    Authentication          : WPA-Personal
    Encryption              : CCMP
    BSSID 1                 : 00:1f:33:xx:xx:xx
         Signal             : 99%
         Radio Type         : 802.11a
         Channel            : 64
         Basic Rates (Mbps) : 6 12 24
         Other Rates (Mbps) : 9 18 36 48 54

Ok, go in and change the 5Ghz channel to 60 upper and see what happens.

No change. Actually this thing bothered me so much, that I flashed DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/27/09) std-nokaid - build 12220M NEWD Eko.
Again same thing. Tried to change the channels. Again recognized as 802.11a, running on 270mbps.
And if I set the security mode to WPA/WPA2-Personal, with TKIP encryption, the laptop just doesn't want to connect. I tried to set up the encryption settings on the laptop manually, but again without success. And the only security key I am able to set is the password I use for logging in ...
Weird ... ?!

Well your not the first person to have a screwy 4965AGN card. I can't even connect to my router using N unless I have WMM Support Enabeld. If I disable it I get no connection at all. Like I said though I think it's the card not Windows. Intels are screwy. Why don't you download Xirrus Wifi Inspector and see what that says on it when you run it. It's free and a great way to test your signal.

Xirrus shows 802.11n network.
The thing is that I am developing an application, which is xirrus wi-fi alike and if I use the native wi-fi library I see the network as 802.11a.
All of the tools, which I tried, which use the native library show the same results.
I just updated the driver of the intel card, and again same results ...

And I don't think it is the card ... when I used the original netgear firmware I was able to see the network as 802.11n.

What's your firmware version? It's hard to believe it's dd-wrt because this is the first time I've heard of this issue.

As I said, now I am using the most recent one:
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (05/27/09) std-nokaid - build 12220M NEWD Eko
Again hard resets before and after the flash with the new build.
You can see some screen shots.

PS. And after I flashed with the new build I see that the errors in the transmitted packets are increased. For about a week with the previous build I used there were only about 50 error packets, and with this one for about one hour - 80 ...

I'm sorry to see such bad luck for you on this. Have you tried restarting you laptop or PC since this has been happening? Do you have any other N clients that have this same problem? I believe that would be the only way to pin point the problem to see if it's hardware or firmware related. And I meant the Firmware version of you Intel card.

must be a netgear specific issue...WRT600N here with 4965 and showing N networks, same build...sounds to me like something went wonky with vista...did you try SP2 yet? It is supposed to have wireless improvements, blablala...
