But does the WDS link still die if a wireless device joins one of the two WDS-linked access points?
Yes it does. But no other issues with WDS and long-term stability, and in my case, it doesn't matter because the devices would be dedicated to WDS even if regular clients and WDS would work at the same time, though.
Until this problem is resolved, I am wondering if there is a way to prevent wireless clients from joining a WDS-linked AP? _________________ 2x WRT54G v2

Well I guess you could disable broadcasting of the SSID of the network. It's in wireless settings. Of course this doesn't prevent clients from connecting if they know the SSID but at least it should keep strangers off since they can't see the network.
With 050609 firmware I have WDS working between two WHR-G300Ns at 40MHz channel width and secured with WPA2 personal. Single TCP transfer over the link gives me about 7.3MB/s steady bandwidth between two ethernet connected hosts at both ends. The boxes are now linking downstairs and upstairs of my apartment with two walls in between and distance of about 7 meters. Nice!
nice, can't get this to work...
which channel, greenmode/mixed, Wide Channel do you have configured?

The WDS Wiki page has information on how to turn off the AP function on a WDS Bridge (see heading "WDS Bridging without Access Point Function"). I just recall having tried this on v23 a long time ago, I have not tried it again on v24. _________________ 2x WRT54G v2

yes, I know these pages...
But thats not the point I'm asking for.
I was not responding to your question, merely following up on a question I myself had brought up earlier in this thread. _________________ 2x WRT54G v2

I tried adding the WHR-G300N running BS build 12505 to my WDS network without much success. The WHR-G300N does not even show the other WDS nodes on its Wireless Status page, yet it does show up (with non-zero signal strength) on the Wireless Status pages of other WDS nodes. I got same results using BS build 12523.
FWIW, here's my network configuration & settings:
- WDS LAN with one primary Internet GW router (WRT300N v1.1) and 2 remote routers (WRT54G v2, WHR-G300N), interconnected full meshed fashion and using same SSID and with STP On.
- Encryption: WPA Personal w/ AES.
- Primary router: WAN Link On with address dynamically assigned by ISP, DHCP Server On, NAT/Firewall On, UPnP On.
- Remote router: WAN Link Off, DHCP Server Off, NAT/Firewall Off.
- All other configuration knobs (except for Time-Zone and DST selection) left in their default setting.
As before, I can get the WHR-G300N to join the network as a Repeater Bridge without any perceived problem. _________________ 2x WRT54G v2

Here's screenshots showing the basic wireless and WDS configuration on both of my WHR-G300Ns called downstairs and upstairs. I'm posting this in two pieces since it seems like you can only add three attachments per post.
I'm still running an old but stable build, over 44 days uptime for one of the boxes already, no hiccups.
Has anyone else succeeded in getting WDS to work on a WHR-G300N?
I still have no luck with it (most recent build I tried is BS 12615). _________________ 2x WRT54G v2

So the most recent build with WDS confirmed to be functioning on a WHR-G300N is 06/05/09? _________________ 2x WRT54G v2

I always thought that both routers need the same SSID for WDS to work. Can you also show your (masked) security page?
