I use the 610n as a client bridge using the 5Ghz band and have no reboot issues at all. The problem is only why both bands are used at the same time. You can use either the 2.4Ghz or the 5Ghz radio on their own with no issues.

For me, is not the same. I try to use only 2.4Ghz band with PC and NAS connected to ethernet, and during the night (with emule in downloading) I got some reboot.
If I don't use the network, I reach 11hours of no reboot.

Can someone elaborate on "no switch support"? Does that mean all four ports of the gigabit switch will not work?

TX power settings on the 610N report that they are working on the 2.4Ghz radio. The 610N has a newer driver that allows this to work. Some of us with the 600N have actually loaded the 610N version of a build and have found that it will control the 2.4Ghz band for us. Build 12360 it does work, after this build some have said that it does not. Until Eko does some more changes or officially comes out with his new NEWD2 builds we may find out more about this issue.

Now I'm confused :)

So "TX power doesn't work" is solely an issue with the WRT600N?

Olli

"The 610N has a newer driver that allows this to work." I should have said the 610N build is a newer driver than the regular NEWD builds that others use. Loading the 610N build produces 2.4Ghz band working on some routers(ie. 600N).

You should add an installation guide link or include in the first post as well since more people recommends 30/30/30 for the first flash.

No, the ports work fine. But they cannot be reassigned, so to speak. Assigning WAN port to LAN, for example. VLAN support isn't working.

[*]No TFTP recovery: Due to a problem in the CFE, it is not possible to recover a bricked device using the commonly recommended boot-wait TFTP process (i.e. by waiting for the device to react to pings to 192.168.1.1 and TFTP a firmware file to it). TFTP transfers to the device which are larger than 3.8MB (i.e., the stock firmware) will fail, other TFTP transfers will seemingly succeed, but the CFE will not flash them. Debricking requires at least a serial connection. Note that the serial port is externally accessible inside the "Internet" ethernet jack. Instructions for serial recovery are available here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=209668#209668

I'm not sure I read this right. I understand what builds have been tested to successfully work on the 610, however they are 3.6MB, so I was wondering...are those the images you have to initally flash since the stock firmware won't accept anything else, and once loaded, you can upgrade to mega?

You can flash from stock right to mega.

As far as I know the only images that are safe to flash with a 610n are the ones with 610n in the filename.

I just read the wiki for the 600 as well as the 610...seems the images with 610 are more or less std with the special header. Once loaded, you can flash whatever you want (exempting micro since it doesn't support gig lan). That's on the 600, I imagine it would probably apply to the 610 as well since it's just a glorified 600.

I just tried EKO 12424 and now have a brick again, similiar to what 12367 (?) did.

Back to fiddling with the serial console...

tftp does work...I flashed a wrong BS build and had nothing but a light show on my router...no wireless LED, etc...so far I have recovered my 610n twice when I thought it was toast.
I kept trying and tftp did eventually work and the router is back to life....took MANY attempts...so many I was about to give up, but I saw it had come back to life.
This was around 12250 build timeline
Don't ever give up!
Also you stated that any of the eko mega/normal builds will work in the first post; this is incorrect!
For 610N all the way to today, ANY build MUST have '610n' in the file name, otherwise YOU WILL BE SORRY!

Changed:

-- clarified that DD-WRT can be flashed straight from Linksys firmware
-- clarified that the missing Switch driver only affects advanced configuration (VLAN et.al.), not basic operation

Actually, I did flash 12424_mega, not the the WRT610N version, so please disregard for now.

Indeed.

I'll try TFTP again now. So far, it doesn't look good...
