I don't really know how to properly edit a wiki. Can someone edit this one, http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/USB_on_ASUS_WL500GPV2

Before the Verify the Print Server is Running I think there is a step missing. At least I needed to do one more thing before my printer would work.

After doing this command, chmod +x /jffs/etc/config/usb.startup

I needed to edit that file and add the line below (brother is printer brand)
#brother laser

so the file would look like
#brother laser
/jffs/usr/sbin/p910nd -b -f /dev/usb/lp0 0

If this is too confusing I guess I will have to figure out how to edit a Wiki. I spent the last few hours trying to figure out how to do this going back and forth between all the printer wikis.

Hold your horses man. Frater setup a printer automount script on my router today for his new optware. The more people that show interest, then he will make a public optware package so these outdated tutorials can be put to rest.

PM him for request. Wink

They aren't outdated, I'm using the USB print server to run a Lexmark 1400 series off my 610n...works beautifully (while the printer has ink anyway).

Aren't outdated?

Then how does fraters 5 steps set-up everything you could ever need?

You have to be kidding me! How come I didn't run across this searching the forums over the weekend? I guess at least I learned something setting the printer up. It's just that the WIKI I was referring to doesn't work as is, which may leaves others tearing their hair out.

Hopefully that whole portion of the WIKI can just be replaced with that script install.

I don't know if people realize how much better it is to run a USB printer off a TCP/IP port instead of using some Routers terrible sharing software, looking at you my DLINK DGL-4500.

I added Dicksons' flashing method for buffalo routers to the general buffalo flashing info. I don't have a buffalo, so I just cut and paste the info from his post.

I upgraded the 350N instructions, leaving the old material below the new. Once the new is tested and seems to be correct, the old should be deleted.

I'm in the process of making a universal flash procedure for all of the WL500x series. As of now it is a clusterfuck, as you can see in http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=60767 . Also I plan to combine the USB instructions for all the Asus' as well, since the WL500W wiki I made applies to all of the WL500x series. It will take some time and I plan to backup the OLD ass wiki's for them..

Don't throw away detailed explanations or how-to's just because new web-gui or scripts makes something easier to install/setup.

Somebody may still want to know how things work behind the scenes. Could be because they want to do things differently, they have different specific needs, or they want to build-on/improve/repair functionality.

Make a new page, or add new info at the top of the page, so one quickly know there is updated/new options.

Only delete if information is wrong.

Added some pictures to the 'Optware, the right way' Wiki and fixed some typos..

The Asus links worked just fine for me yesterday when I checked them. And they still work now:

Although I take pride in my work you are absolutely right. Masterman is just a bit too enthousiastic.

That would be an issue with your browser. The files download just fine in IE. Doesnt mean the link are dead at all. I take it you are using Firefox. if so, right-click the link and select "Save Link As"
