I have installed DD-WRT > Laughing

thanks for your help Sasha. Believe it or not if not directly... you did help me find my way throe all of this.

I went from a brick to a fixed router in better detail in this thread, and I did it all with out a jtag. Very Happy Laughing

Looks like I can finally sleep good tonight for the first time in weeks. I have learned alot. Even tho I am happy I learned a few things about vxworks I hope I never see it again. Had it not been for there Ftp boot I would have never unbricked with a serial cable.

Look the only complaint I have about all of this is the install read me file. The flashing.txt did not have the information needed for a newbie to understand.

I also understand that there is a wiki section on this site, but please also understand that I was told about this DD-WRT from a email link I got form a friend, and did not know that I had to do a lot of reading to do first to get this installed. Still no excuse to try. I should have stopped and came here at the first sign of trouble.

The link he showed me is the one that I put on my first post. It is still on the bountifulwifi.com web site to this day.

I thought that all I needed to know was in that flashing.txt file. Please note if you go step by step in that file you will get a error and/or a brick. It needs to be changed. Started with ap61 files being called ap51 files. You cant even tell if they are telling you to type a command, or if its the command that redboot is suppose to get back.

This took me over two weeks to unbrick, and after that one day trying to find my way throe the install. There were many sessions where I had to log back in, and finish fis commands.

The best thing I learned was not to do something that I don't know to well yet. I suggest anybody that does not want to read up on something they don't know about, or think they do be giving a link to this tread. Because I did not study up first, I rushed the install, did not seek help, and I lost a lot of my free time getting this thing fixed. I had to do alot of research to find a way to do this, and alot of trial and error.

Yes it is very possible I would have never been able to fix my router, and this would have been a thread that got lost with out a solution.

I am very happy with the new functions I am going to have with DD-WRT. You should see Bountiful firmware, one day if you get your hands on one of those, you will see that is not up to par with this one. Anyone who has one would know.

BTW I see I only have 23 hours to use this. What happens after that and how much does it cost ?? I have my router unplugged right now that way I can use the time to play with the new functions, or I will come home tomorrow to a expired trial.

So what would happen if you flashed the backup navrambak.bin from this successful install to another different virgin Bountiful 1000 unit not running DD-wrt? I've done it with linksys wrt300's without a glitch...

Go to "administration" then backup and then backup and save. Come to think of it, I think the way I flashed the linksys wrt300 was only after I had upgraded the vendor firm ware with DD-wrt and then simply flashed the config I was using for daisey chaining 5 routers with WDS... I seriously doubt I could simply upgrade the firmware with a navrambak.bin from your router. I sent a PM to Sash and will await his verdict.

I have a Bountiful BWRG1000 that is bricked, I cannot get any of the redboot cfe’s to output any serial data what so ever. The whole flash was erased without a backup, (I know Shame on me). So I thought I would try to put the original vxworks boot loader on the unit which I believe is a BSP (342KB) after the bsp flash I have some serial but its It’s a error reboot loop.

Hello, I have a bountiful BWRG1000 as well with the exact problem as described in this post, my problem is Im not sure which ttl device djhowzer used, was it a USB serial to rs232 ttl converter or is it a rs232 to ttl converter. I bought a "PC USB Serial to RS232 Module TTL Converter Adapter" on ebay http://www.ebay.ph/itm/PC-USB-Serial-RS232-Module-TTL-Converter-Adapter-1-/230666882217?pt=UK_Computing_Other_Computing_Networking&hash=item35b4d14ca9#ht_4172wt_912 but it does nothing when I plug it into my computer, doesn't show up in device manager, nothing, even with different usb cables, im not sure if its deffective. I just want to confirm if it's the same that was successfully used in this post.

As with a lot of other people, I bricked my Bountiful BWRG 1000. It just reboots itself every few seconds.

After a lot of reading and trips to the electonric store I successfully built a USB/Serial cable, as COM5. I have tested it by connecting the Tx and Rx cables together and getting the echo reply in PuTTY.

I have attempted to connect the cables to pins 4 (Rx) and 10 (Tx) as seen below in my crude diagram. I have the ground cable going to a grounded contact on the board.

I have tried various BAUD rates, but I still get garbage on the screen. Currently it is set to:

BAUD Speed: 115200
Data Bits: 8
Stop Bits: 1
Parity: None
Flow Ctrl: None (but have tried XON/XOFF)

Any suggestions? Am I missing something? Is there another piece of software I should be using in an attempt to load Redboot?
