Hi,
I am not exactly a newbie to this, as I have flashed my Linksys WRT310N probably about 10 times with different versions of Eko's firmware, but the recent builds I cannot seem to get wireless N speeds. In the status page it never shows over 54mbps. I know my laptop is wireless N and i also have desktop machines they never seem to connect at N speed and I have gotten both of these wireless NICs to run at N speeds. I am currently running
Try setting your wireless type to N only. _________________ SIG:

What are your encryption settings? It needs to be either open or WPA2-AES if you want to guarantee N rates. The N spec doesn't allow weak encryption such as WEP or WPA1 so compliant cards will drop down to G rates when using weak encryption. _________________ Read the forum announcements thoroughly! Looking for bricks and spare routers to expand my collection. (not interested in G spec models)
I have tried to set it just to wireless N but that still does not work. Maybe it is my encryption settings. I am using WPA personal. I will try to change this too.

Do all of your wireless clients have N capable NICs? If not, DD-WRT will automatically downclock to G-speeds (or B speeds for that matter) _________________ Optware, the Right Way

Yes they are all Wireless N NICs!
My laptop uses Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN, while my desktop is using a Linksys WMP300n w/ an External Roswell Antenna.
OK, so after changing encryption to WPA2-PSK AES, I am getting wireless N speeds SOMETIMES (Which is better than never). The speeds sometimes though get down to just a couple Mbps but my signal strength is excellent. Are there any other setting that might stablize to N connection? I have switched back to Mixed mode. Do you think I would get more consistency with straight N mode?
(I forgot to mention that I use MAC filtering, only allowing MACs I enter to connect to the router, but I doubt this would have anything to do with N connectivity.)

Do you have alot of wireless broadcasts in your area? Go to Status->Wireless and click "Site Survey" Note the channels that are being received by your router and change it to one that isn't being broadcasted in your area. Also, set channel width to 40MHz and reboot the router.. _________________ Optware, the Right Way

I have the exact same problem with my setup. I just upgraded to Eko 12774 NEWD-2 to try and resolve my problem but no luck.
I have a WRT310N and a Intel Wifilink 5100 AGN. I've connected to N routers before but mine seems to not want to let me. When I go into N only mode I can't connect at all.
The area I live is in definitely congested (I can see 20-25 routers in the area but only 3-4 are N routers).
I've tried messing with the channels and frequencies to no avail. In my computer's site survey it identifies my router as an N router but only connects at 54 mbps on a G channel.
Here are my settings if they help:
Wireless Network Mode Mixed
Channel 4 (was the least populated for my area)
Channel Width 40 Mhz
Wide Channel Upper
Wireless Security WPA2 AEP (TKIP+AES didn't work for me)
Frame Burst Disabled
Afterburner Disabled
Transmit Power 28
My actual transfer speeds between my wireless laptop and wired desktop seem to be rather slow though...around the 1 MB/s mark. If I wire in, it goes 10-20 MB/s on the gigabit lan. Not sure about that one.
Hope this helps someone else.

Any ideas about the actual download speeding being so slow?
When you go to status -> wireless in the Web interface, what is the Rate showing up as?
Here is an example of mine:

Great start to the wiki! Thanks for that.
It looks like my speeds don't stay stable for very long. It will go from 270 to 100 in a matter of seconds and back up again. My actual throughput is around 2-3 MB/s
What I found was, I played with my xmit power till I found what was optimal for my environment. I am sure you will have to do the same.
It took quite a bit of time for me to do this but using inSSIDer helped too. I actually went from 70mw to 250mw watching inSSIDer while doing so. I usually went in increments of 2mw-5mw. This took several hours scattered over weeks until I found what was good for me.
You will find the "sweet spot". It just takes some time to do so.
