So I've installed optware and upgraded to samba 3.5 and enabled xinetd. I simply cannot get Win7 to detect my usb-hdd in the network or homegroup tab. Please help me! I think this may have something to do with setting up CIFS.
What is currently the best router to use with Optware? I'm planning on running a newsgroup leecher and SAMBA.
Now, I am satisfied with E3000 and E4200, but for heavy newsgroups downloads a router can be too weak to handle huge downloads. Repairing downloads with par2 puts a heavy load on processor and disk, besides disks connected via USB don't perform fast enough for handling good huge downloads. I only let NZBget do the work if downloading mp3s or flacs for my media player, but I generally don't use it if they are packed with WinRAR. _________________ 2 times APU2 Opnsense 21.1 with Sensei

Yeah it would be nice if it supported the RT-N66U.
Posted: Sat Nov 17, 2012 20:03 Post subject: pound startup fails to set required iptables rules ...
The router information I'm configuring is:
Router Model: Linksys E3000
Firmware Version: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/20/12) mega - build 19519
Optware (OTRW) is installed and running w/o issues on a 4GB memory stick, primarily so I can use pound to access multiple web-servers sitting behind the router. Upon rebooting the router or on stopping then restarting pound from a cmdline prompt by telneting into the router, the S80pound generated iptables rules (stored in /opt/etc/iptables.pound and activated by a link stored in /tmp/etc/config/pound.wanup) are not activated. Inspection of the S80pound script provided by Frater (thanks for all you do on this project) finds a 'stopservice firewall' / 'startservice firewall' sequence in lines 153/154. Clearly, these two lines are the method by which the newly created iptables rules are supposed to be activated, but that doesn't happen. To take the troubleshooting one step further, these two commands were executed from the cmdline. Execution of the second command produces the most interesting response: "Permission denied", in reference to the /tmp/etc/config/pound.wanup link. Permissions set on the 'fixtables.wanup' and 'pound.wanup' links are identical as are permissions on the actual files to which the links point. Issuing the command:
iptables -L | grep 8080
produces no output, indicating that no rule has been set in iptables redirecting port 80 traffic to port 8080, as required by 'pound'. Additional possibly helpful output is shown below.
root@henry:~# iptables -L | grep 8080
root@henry:~# stopservice firewall
root@henry:~# startservice firewall
/bin/sh: /tmp/etc/config/pound.wanup: Permission denied

A temporary workaround for this issue is to manually invoke the iptables.pound rules from the command line, but of course, this requires doing a telnet or ssh login to the router after each reboot. Does anyone have a suggested permanent solution?
Sorry for the length of this message, but giving the gurus all the details seemed to be important. Thanks for your help and for your time reading this long missive.

Hello everybody, I searched everywhere I could for a guide how to downgrade the client to version 2.42 or lower, but I could not find anything. I am quite new to optware or linux in general, so I apologize if this is a basic thing to do, but I would be ecstatic if any of you could point me in the right direction on how to do this. Thank you

basmaf, thank you for the explanation about the missing shebang being the cause for the "Permission denied." error in the script to start the 'pound' service. Your updated OTRW Take2 script worked well, and 'pound' is now running without issues on my E3000. Thanks for your help.

Any update on getting uShare or another media server working with Optware on the 2.6 Kernal? I think there are tons of people out there who really want DLNA support for their external USB drives. (like me)
Otherwise, I have so far loved having Optware. Learning some Linux along the way also is giving me some good experience.

You could try this: use the firmware mod kit and rip minidlna from Kong's firmware. You save it under /opt/bin , you make a minidlna.conf and you call it with minidlna -f /opt/etc/minidlna.conf . _________________ 2 times APU2 Opnsense 21.1 with Sensei

I use belkin play n600 router, running 19xxx firmware and optware without any problem...
just update the firmware to 20202 and find that the optware install script not work any more... it keep stopping in some "pidof xxx" step or "mv ..." command...
any ways to make it work again or what's there? I delete all /opt and try to install again.. still the same. _________________ Belkin N600 Play Max HD F7D4301v1

Hello, I managed to get Optware on my E3200, but when I was updating from Samba2 to Samba3 in accidently deleted S80Samba and smb.conf. Could anyone please upload those files from Samba2, so I can get my Samba running?
Thanks in advance
EDIT:Nevermind, got it. But max speed I am able to get is 3MB/s when copying file from PC to USB disk connected to my E3200.Is this maximum or can I somehow speed things up a little bit?
