You will have to type the command then start the transfer by tftp. You don't need flash1.trx, flash1.trx is the location to flash the firmware. With these commands via serial console, you can forget about reaching webgui. It's one thing or the other...

okkkkkk!!!
now it's clear finally for me.

And, last question, what is the correct firmware with kernel 2.6 that i can upload via tftp?
Can i upload direct the dd-wrt.v24-13401_big-wrt610n.bin or have i to upload dd-wrt.v24-13401_mini_usb_ftp_wrt610n.bin before ?

If it already has dd-wrt in it, go for big. If it's first flash, go for mini.

I don't have a lot of luck with putty. I have no problem with hyperterminal once I found out using xon/xoff kept ctrl-c from working.

Putty supports different terminal emulators, try a different one.

Fantastic!

I have after updated the router using this file: dd-wrt.v24-13401_big-wrt610n
i have updated via web interface of dd-wrt.
Now the router is bricked again...

The "big" build you are flashing is a k2.6 build?? yes? I don't believe the builds for the 610V1 will work on a V2 router.

Oh my god... i'm going in "denial of service"
You have right... i have chosen the wrong firmware....

I have re-debricked via serial and flashed via TFTP.
the dd-wrt.v24-13450_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt610nv2.bin

ANd finally, from the web gui of dd-wrt i have uploaded dd-wrt.v24-13450_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin
taken from Downloads › others › eko › V24-K26 › svn13450 › Linksys › WRT610Nv2

and now is all fully working.

Thank you for all.
I'm very impressed of this forum community. It's the first time in my life that posting a problem into a forum, i have solved it in less than 24 h.

Thank you so much to everyone

P.S. I have solded the serial port to my router in prevenction to my future newbi faiulure! Smile

Eko wrote:
It is really easy to flash using recovery GUI Smile YOu can do it... it is all in timing.
- Disconnect all cables.
- plug power
- count 2 s (or 2.5 Smile )
- press reset - keep it pressed for 6s, release.
- plug lan cable
- open 192.168.1.1

I tried this again last night about 15 times. I even tried to variate my timing, but it just didn't work on my V2. I'll try again this evening. But after having read about other people who were not able to reach the management GUI after dozens of tries I'm starting to believe that it just doesn't work on some devices.

My bootloader seems to work o.k. as I can ping the device for 3 seconds when it boots. I can also upload Eko's mini TFTP image during this stage, but to no avail.

If I can't get it to work I think I'll go the serial route as pizzulicchio did.

I suggest to you, after opened the router, and lifted up the board, to break one of the two plastics of wall support. So you can easily pass through a/the cable/s to connect to serial port. I have soldered the cable directly on board. It's impossible to use some pins because you can't close the router after.
In this way the cable come out frome the bottom of the router. ( you have done an hole braking the wall support ) It's not bad...

I have read all the preceding messages and tried the techniques suggested. So far, mixed results.

Situation:
I got myself a nice shiny new wrt610n v2. Confirmed it worked fine.
Through the Linksys web GUI, upgraded the router using the the dd-wrt.v24-13450_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt610nv2.bin build. Worked fine.
Decided to try to move to a ...big build. While upgrading, power outage, and forgot to have 610n on battery. Brick.
Set fixed IP on my computer 192.168.1.10, no response via ping or http.
Finally got router to ping once or twice while cycling power repeatedly. While running constant ping as suggested, used TFTP2 and the mini build and finally got build uploaded.
waited at least the 2 minutes. Ping now shows TTL=100, and browser URL tries, gets the DD-WRT icon in address bar, but nothing else.
If I do a hard reset or a 30-30-30, router won't ping anymore and then I have to go through the TFTP process again.
I have not yet been able to bring up the recovery gui using the 2-3sec then 5 sec reset technique. And yes, I remove the ethernet cable.

So what's it mean when it pings, and the DD-WRT icon shows up in the URL field, but nothing else works? What next?

I'm in the exact same boat. If I upload new firmware (dd-wrt.v24-13575_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt610nv2.bin), the pings keep replying (TTL=100). After a few minutes, I reboot the router, I get about 4 pings and then nothing. The power light keeps blinking. I can't get the 2.5/5 technique to work either. I have tried 50 times. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I suggest to you to open your router and to use a serial connector.
It's necessary to know what your router is doing at boot.

The recovery using the press button during the first 5 seconds, with or without ethernet cable, after power on DOESN'T WORK for me too.
2 pings of response and stop....
I think that WRT610n V2 is unbrickable only using serial console.
The recovery seems to be fully working in WRT610n V1

Grazie, Pizzulicchio - I will re-read your posts and experiment with the serial port.

Pokesfan74, thanks for letting me know that someone else is running into the same problem.

Hopefully this weekend I resolve the issue. It'd be a shame to toss it...

Sincerely, Jon
