Hi all, sorry if this is an older unit but I've come into possession of several Netgear EX6200 units and went to put DD-WRT on them but when I try to flash I get an error that there's a problem with the firmware. I'm using the factory to dd firmware, and tried the bin and chk files but no luck. The current firmware on them looks like it's something like 1.X.X.X

You may have to revert to the initial firmware version of stock firmware first via stock firmware or nmrpflash.

Of course, we have zero clue what factory-to-ddwrt.chk files you are specifically trying to flash, either.

I doubt you would need to flash this one first, but here it is for reference:

P.S. screenshots of actual issue and all applicable information would be super helpful so we can help you.

I'm actually using the kong chk file that you linked. I'm attaching the picture of what happens and I'll give the initial FW method a shot.

OK just tried the initial flash. Got the same upgrade failure. The current FW is V1.0.1.60_1.1.98

So I can't say anything specific about the extender.
But we have similar problems in the Atheros forum with other Netgear routers.

The problem was that the Kong files are much too old.
Which definitely works for me:

flash the latest firmware on the Netgear router:

1.0.3.94

https://www.netgear.de/support/product/EX6200.aspx#download

and flash a current factory-to-dd-wrt from BS afterwards:
https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2021/06-21-2021-r46979/netgear-ex6200/

Anyway, that's the procedure I recommend for the R7800.

if this does not work then reverse it: flash an old Netgear firmware and then use an old Kong file.

If the current stock firmware will not accept the oldest stock firmware, you'll have to use nmrpflash to downgrade it. I would have to look at the latest ambit commits for Netgear to see if flashing any builds from this year would work, but they should. I would likely recommend 46446 as a starting point, then upgrade to 46979, if you wish.

I was able to install the firmware from the German Netgear site. That worked. However, using the recommended firmware that kernelpanic-69 posted, it fails to update.

Then I guess you have to nmrpflash to the 1.0.0.38 version.

OK tried to send the FW via nmrpflash and it fails with this message:

nmrpflash -i net17 -f factory-to-dd-wrt.chk

Indeed. You cannot flash factory-to-ddwrt.chk with nmrpflash. It is for flashing stock firmware or specific third-party firmware images.

I am using the 1.0.0.38 firmware. When I attempt to flash via nmrpflash I get that timeout error

Looks like a reboot and a reflash and I got DD-WRT going. Thanks all. I think I got this going but I need to set one of the ports to act as a WAN port?

Correct. I am not sure how builds newer that 46446 will act on this device at present as I do not recall anyone reporting on it. I don't have one of these on hand personally to give any further 'educated' guidance on.
