Hey Midnight,
Just wondering if there is an initial flash required for 14289. I noticed the bin file you linked doesn't state wrt320n within the file name. I'm curious, because when I flashed with 13575, i actually flashed first with:
dd-wrt.v24-13575_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt320n.bin
then
dd-wrt.v24-13575_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini.bin
Just wondering if the same procedure is required, since this would be a different build number.
Would I be able to upgrade directly from 13575 to 14289?
of course are recomended clear nvram before and after flashing. _________________ My Blog

If you actually take the time to read all the info on this router you come across many scary things and workarounds for them. But then those fixes get put into later builds. I just want to make sure i have all my info lined up before flashing.
The instructions on wrt320N wiki give a good step by step instructions for flashing the initial dd-wrt.v24-13493_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt320n.bin. That sounds easy.
Then the instructions for flashing to any other version say to do a hard reset before and after. This thread starts with the warning that 30-30-30 does not work on this router. Since i'm going to be starting with a version of dd-wrt that includes the wps button fix mentioned in the first post, do i just mentally replace any mention of 'hard reset' or 'erase nvram' with 'press WPS, plug in the router and continue to hold WPS for 10-12sec'?
So i do that before and after i install any new dd-wrt build just to be safe?

Hey Spiffers,
I just did the upgrade directly after resetting to defaults on the mini install and did the upgrade to Big on the GUI interface. No unplugging or 30-30-30 reset needed for this one. A reset to factory default may not even be necessary before the upgrade to any other WRT version, but I did for precaution.
I installed this version after I installed the mini build:

Background:
I received a refurbished WRT320N from Newegg today, opened it up, and spent about 30 seconds with the original firmware before uploading dd-wrt.v24-14205_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini_wrt320n.bin using the instructions in the Wiki. Upload went smoothly except that I used Firefox, and the screen did *not* automatically update. Refreshing the browser on http://192.168.1.1 fixed that.
Once the "mini" firmware was in, I uploaded the latest stable build of the "big" firmware: dd-wrt.v24-14205_NEWD-2_K2.6_big.bin
The "big" firmware also loaded fine, and I was able to see configuration options for hotspots, VPN, etc. Notably, the VPN configuration page was broken in Safari (I am on OS X 10.6 with Safari 4.0.5).
I wanted to force my new Macbook Pro (purchased April 2010) to use the WRT320N in 802.11n 5ghz mode, so I set DD-WRT's "Wireless Network Mode" to "N-Only (5 GHz)". Strangely, when wireless security is disabled, the connection works fine. Unfortunately, when WPA2+AES is enabled, OS X reports an error (even though this is the only security mode allowed by the 802.11n+5ghz spec). Although OS X asks me for a WPA password, it does not get an IP and simply reports "See administrator". Checking the logs using Console.app revealed slightly more detail:
5/14/10 11:17:32 PM SystemUIServer[135] Error joining dd-wrt: See administrator (-3914 Unknown rate) ...Googling this finds nothing.
When the Wireless Network Mode is set to "Mixed", I am able to connect with WPA2 Personal+AES, but the computer reverts to 802.11g(2.4ghz) according to System Profiler :x
Apparently this issue has been reported previously with the WRT310N, and is still unresolved: (http://63.246.25.250/message.jspa?messageID=10130835#10130835)
The wireless card on this computer is the AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x93) with Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (5.10.131.14.7) chipset/firmware.
Somehow in all this mucking around with speeds, I managed to cause the router to enter an infinite loop of reset cycles.
[color=red]Edit 5/15/10 2:28am PST: I was able to reproduce the restart-cycling bug simply by enabling "N-Only 5GHz" or "NA-mixed" modes. This is with no Wireless Security applied, and all factory default settings.
...after reverting back to the original Linksys firmware, I observed the same problem. I guess my router is fux0red. Unfortunately, since this router spent about 2 minutes out of the box before I installed DD-WRT, I'll never know if that's what broke it, or if it is a poorly "refurbished" router after all.
Ironically, now I can't do a hard reset because the firmware on the router is the Linksys firmware with the wrong gpio. Oh, how I miss my DD-WRT firmware now! But I wish I hadn't gotten a crap router from the start.

Hey Fisslefick,
I noticed the same issue when flashing DD-WRT on my 320n and using Firefox. I eventually used IE 8 to get past the refreshing problem.
I've always noticed a slightly annoying problem with the 320n when using 2.4Ghz along with NG-mixed mode/Mixed Wireless Channel/Mixed Wireless Width. Most of my wireless connections are using the G protocol, but I do have one HP Touchsmart 600xt, which I am forcing to use the N protocol.
The N connection seems to occasionally need a restart to establish the wireless connection to the router. This seems to happen after putting the system to sleep or even shutting down and rebooting. So what I have is an intermittent start up connection for the N system. The connection is very stable and fast once it's up (270mps), it's just the annoyance of having to reboot sometimes to get this going.
This problem was occurring even before I flashed to:
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/16/10) mega - build 14289
The same issue is still unfortunately there with DD-WRT, but manageable.
Everything seems to be stable and has been running for about over two weeks.
I realize your issues is a bit different, I was hoping it might provide some insight into your own issue. _________________ x1 Linksys E2000 w/x2 6dbi Antennas[DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/13/11) std-usb-nas-build 16785] x1 Linksys E4200 [DD-WRT.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv60k (06/14/11)]

Happy to report that svn14471 is working well on my WRT320N.
I received my replacement refurbished WRT320N from Newegg today. Using the original firmware, I was able to activate 5Ghz-only mode (channel = Auto, width = Auto). On my first router, this bricked the unit. So, that's a good sign...
That installed smoothly, and I was able to activate 5Ghz-only mode (channel = Auto, width = Auto) without bricking the router. So, my previous bad experience seems to have been due to a lemon.

Great to hear, I think it's time for the upgrade! _________________ x1 Linksys E2000 w/x2 6dbi Antennas[DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/13/11) std-usb-nas-build 16785] x1 Linksys E4200 [DD-WRT.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv60k (06/14/11)]
