Tried everything on my 610nV2.
Flashed the mini with TFTP, after that getting 100ms ping replies all the time.
Not possible to open GUI on the router.
Shortcut pin8/9 able to flash mini as well but result is the same as above.

Completely stuck now. Anybody a suggestion
Did you try to flash the stock linksys firmware for your unit?
Only option left is to clear nvram & force an upload via serial. There are many posts and a wiki on serial.
Quit shorting pins now that you know it will not help. _________________ [Moderator Deleted]

No it times out before the stock firmware is finished. Only the mini is small enough to succesfully upload within the available time.
Still strange that with this firmware it doesn't go into GUI mode. Powerled keeps flashing.
Earlier i broke my WRT610N v2.0, and wasn't able to get it fix by PIN stuff, because the "Management Mode" wouldn't let met enough time to send even a "micro" build.
So i managed, with a little trick, to upload my Mini Firmware !
here are the steps :
1. Do the pin stuff (8-9), and get to "Management Mode - Firmware Upload" page.
(From here, once i open this page, looks like the httpd from the router didn't respond anymore)
2. Try to upload your firmware anyway...
(if it works good for you, but if you got the timeout page, go one next step).
3. Now don't close the timeout page.
4. Do the pin stuff again, and try to ping the router
(ping -t 192.168.2.1 is your friend).
5. Wait like 15 secs, but don't try to open again the firmware page.
6. Go back to your timeout page, and now press F5 !
your browser is gonna ask you if you would like to "POST" again your information, simply answer "Yes".
7. You should have a page, saying that the upload is Ok, and you have to wait for about "60 seconds".
8. 90 seconds later you should have the lights of the router blinking like a Christmas tree !
Voilà.
(Sorry for my english, that a little trick from France)

Working!!!
but in step 5-6
i have to click "Yes" as soon as i got the first ping response from step 4

I decided to re-read this topic to refresh what I had learned and see that many people have benefited from Eko's little "You didn't hear it from me" trick for unbricking the router. To be honest, I'm surprised that it came in handy for so many people.
About to download a newer build (on 13575M now). One thing that I've noticed about this router, it runs HOT.
just popping in here to say thanks aswell, bricked my 610nv2 a couple hours ago luckily i had this post saved in my firefox and it did the trick first time
opening the router was easy if you dont mind breaking the platic a little bit i just pryed it open with a screwdriver after i removed the screws. the router assmebled nicely again and theres just som tiny marks to seee if you really look for em

When I tried a second time to open it, I was a little more confident about it and not only managed to open it, but didn't break it at all in the process. It's tricky, but it's possible to open it without any damage. _________________

Fascinating thread, I am impressed with the blackbox engineering expertise displayed by forum members.
I have a newbie question: Should I do a 30-30-30 reset on my wrt610n router to upgrade from stock firmware?
This thread seems to imply that it will brick it however it has not been said explicitly. Peacock thread and other pages are adamant that hard reset must be performed.

I have completely bricked my E3000 modem, did even try tftp and short pin 8 and 9, it doesn't come alive. I had earlier aborted in a middle of a flash (I know it was dumb, but it happened
I still have some hope, because the light is still flickering.
Anyone wants to take the challenge of fixing it, I can send the router and if you fix it, I will send a $25 Gift card and the shipping.
Of course, if there's anyone who can bring it back to life, I'm sure Eko can. _________________

Just registered to say thanks to Eko - the 89 pin solution worked!
I had few troubles though, win7 seemed to lose internet connection (the static one) to 192.168.1.1 after a minute or so, so I had to use WinXP for it to work.
Also could not flash an updated mini straight into the box, I had do flash the trailed fw first then the updated one.
