So I have 3 of these Airlink ar670w total, the first two I put DD-WRT on work great in Repeater-bridge mode, but the recent one will only work in AP mode. Also if I create a vap, regardless if encryption is enabled or not, it will not connect. I have tested it with a few different devices to be sure its not the client trying to access the vap. Has anyone else had this issue with their ar670w? Could it have been a bad flash? I reloaded the factory Airlink firmware and then re-added dd-wrt and it still didn't fix it. (build 13972)

See post on 4/7/2010 for fix.

So the 13064 build repeating bridge works and I can connect to the virtual access point, but that is the build that the switch doesn't work. When I bridged vlan1 to br0 with build 13064, guess what, it I lost the brige. Repeating bridge with 13069 or higher does not work, but again it did work for my other units, so there must be some bug in the chip itself that is expressed when 13069 was suposed to fix the vlan1. So since you have those two factors I believe that the fix for vlan1 is the problem, but Im not a programer, so someone smarter than I will have to check this out.

I have a work around for units that had issues with repeating bridge mode and/or virtual access points. Using the 13064 build, you can connect to your router using repeating bridge, and still have functional ports if you set the WAN port to vlan2 and use a patch cable to link the rest of the ports to it.

Again, this is not necessary for all ar670w units. I have tested 6 and only 2 would not work with 13069 or higher builds for bridge mode, or virtual AP.

One thing I noticed was that the frequent lag spikes or reconnects seemed to disappear using the WAN --> LAN patch cable. I also tested it on Routers that worked with 13069 or higher by unbridged vlan1, and using the patch cable. I found the same thing, it appeared to stabilize the connection, and after 5 hours of Modern Warfare 2, I think its the way to go.

I am having the same issue trying for a while a repeater bridge mode with no success. Using 13064 I see the router connecting to my AP and working but teh switch ports are still not working I bridged as you said the WLAN port to vlan 2 and used a patch cord but still having a problem.

Could you please post the setting for the repeater and how you have been able to make the switch posrts working?

Thanks!

I set a friend up with a couple of AR670 units, and had trouble making them work as a repeater bridge like we had first wanted to. Then tried WDS and after an easy setup - SUCCESS! Very good data transfer rates between the 2. Then set up a VAP on each to act as the AP. He's using build 13637.

Yea I am no longer using the bridge repeater mode because I swapped my primary router for a second AR670W and WDS mode works well, but when I had previously tried it with my TRENDnet 639gr it had issues, so I used the bridge repeat mode with the patch cord fix.

What you may not be doing is unbridging vlan1 (which is the 4 ethernet ports) Basically for 13064 in bridging I had vlan2(for the WAN port), ra0 and ra1. Then I selected to unbrige vlan1 and used the cable to connect the wan port to one of the other ports. What security mode are you using? I have had issues with it here, and I think because I had the TRENDnet using a virtual ssid with WEP and the main was WPA2 there were issues with the dd-wrt router.

The AR670Ws are quirky little punks, but I think I have them figured out. Right about build 13064 they must have been changing some of the programing in such away that a subtype of processors did not like. As such I have found they break down in two classes. Some will work great on 12874 and are broken using even the latest builds (tested on 13069-14144). The other set of routers work great on everything after 13069, but don't work on 12874.

So basically you should try out builds 12874, or 14144, and one of them should work. I have had 6 routers so far to test on, and 2 out of 6 have needed to use 12874 instead of a new build.

Since both types of router's Lan ports (vlan1) don't work with 13064 my guess is that DD-WRT.com screwed up the programing at some point during that time period, and never fixed it because it works on their donated board.

I know this is a couple years late, but in case it helps anyone else, I have attached a slightly older version that I found somewhere else in the forums - build 12862.

This was the only firmware version that I could get Repeater Bridge mode fully working on my Airlink 101 AR670W. With build 13069 and above, clients could connect wirelessly, but not through the LAN ports.
