Ok, I just set up a client bridge using the wiki guide. The secondary is a WRT54G v5 running v24_sp1. The primary is a modem/router combo from ATT Uverse, model 3800HGV-B

I set everything up as instructed and was confused as to why I wasn't getting a connection to the internet on the secondary. Everything matched.

My primary was set to WPA2-PSK. I set the router to the closest matching option, WPA2-Personal. Keys matched. No connection

I then set my primary to "WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK" and the secondary springs to life and connects, even though it's still set on WPA2.

My questions are, why does this happen? Is it a problem that I need to fix or should I just let sleeping dogs lie? Thanks for the help

I did a video a couple of months ago on youtube doing a walkthrough on how to set upa client bridge and a repeater bridge with the dd-wrt firmware I used a wrt54gs v.1 as the primary and wrt54gs v.5 as the secondary
this is the link

Thanks for the video, it was a big help.
I had one significant issue, which, of course would seem obvious

I had two routers each with DD-WRT, one was V23 one V24.

Once I updated by V23 to V24 everything worked.

Which mode is reccomended?

****Method 1*****
Router 1 - AP
Router 2- Repeater Bridge Mode

****Method 2*****
Router 1 WDS
Router 2 WDS with DHCP disabled

They are essentially the same thing, but this code is so buggy, I want to do the most reliable thing.

I can not make this work to save my life for some reason.

main router is a 150N running DD-WRT v24-sp1 (07/27/08 ) std (followed the wiki, runs fine I guess..) WPA personal, TKIP+AES with a 15 character key set.
second router is a WRT54GS v 7.2 running DD-WRT v24 RC-5 (11/22/07) micro (followed the wiki again..) set up to mirror the first and it flat out refuses to connect. the SSID matches, the key matches, I've turned security off, I've reflashed the firmware, I've reset to defaults and gone through the wiki again and again, I don't get it.
Both routers are in G-only mode, all the settings match, nothing but a blinking WLAN light on the second router.
I tried a WRT54G v2.2 also as a second and had the same problem

edit: problem solved, put the linksys firmware back on the WRT150N and it started working immediately, go figure.

Setup:

Pri Router: ActionTec MI424-WR
Sec Router: WRT54G v.4 (DD-WRT v24-sp1 mini)

I'm trying to make a client bridge so I can hook up my xbox360 to my sec router.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Image:Standard_bridge_large.jpg

like this pic, but my 360(wired) plugged into secondary router.

Right now, I've been able to connect my sec and pri router. I can see and access the sec router being on wireless, but can't connect to the sec router going wired. It seems like the problem is that my sec router isn't giving out any IP's. Can anyone help me?

DHCP in sec router is disabled so you will never get dynamic ip from here. Even you are wired to sec router, you will/must obtain the ip from your primary router.

FWIW.. I tried out Client Bridge a month or so ago trying to connect multiple clients to the secondary bridge. They would work for a little while, but would eventually drop off. If you look through the documentation, you'll find a discussion of experts that basically state that anything more than one computer connected to the secondary bridge and the setup doesn't work. One works. So, I've been using WDS now for about a month and all seems to work very nicely. Set up on a WRT350N with a WRT300N as secondary with a reliable 270 mb connection. YMMV

I had find it being more stable using a repeater bridge my connections are

Primary Router: Pc(wired), and Xbox 360(wireless)

Secondary Router: Laptop (wireless), 2nd Pc(wireless via WMP54gs), Origanal Xbox(wired using flash fxp), 2nd Xbox 360 wired, and PS3 (wireless)

and I have never had a client drop off

I came upon this thread trying to find a solution for WOL to work across a wireless bridge for a squeezebox boom. It gets confused when trying to figure out the server's MAC address since the bridge is masking it and it cannot be set manually.

Here is the arp test: 101 is on the server's side and can see the correct MAC, 105 is on the other side so many of the MAC addresses are masked.

>arp -a

Interface: 192.168.0.105 --- 0xa
Internet Address Physical Address Type
192.168.0.1 00-0f-3d-5d-f8-1c dynamic
192.168.0.2 00-18-39-c8-f2-79 dynamic
192.168.0.100 00-18-39-c8-f2-79 dynamic
192.168.0.200 00-18-39-c8-f2-79 dynamic
192.168.0.255 ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff static
224.0.0.22 01-00-5e-00-00-16 static
224.0.0.252 01-00-5e-00-00-fc static
239.255.255.250 01-00-5e-7f-ff-fa static
255.255.255.255 ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff static

Interface: 192.168.0.101 --- 0xe
Internet Address Physical Address Type
192.168.0.1 00-0f-3d-5d-f8-1c dynamic
192.168.0.2 00-18-39-c8-f2-77 dynamic
192.168.0.100 00-09-6b-3f-d0-da dynamic
192.168.0.200 00-17-31-61-37-09 dynamic
192.168.0.255 ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff static
224.0.0.22 01-00-5e-00-00-16 static

239.255.255.250 01-00-5e-7f-ff-fa static
255.255.255.255 ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff static

Now here's what I don't get: In my routers DHCP table it can clearly see the true MAC addresses and I can even set specific IPs to specific MAC addresses so clearly they are making it to the other side of the bridge. What mechanism is it using to figure out the real MAC addresses?

Hi all
A question for limiting number of LANs while keeping bandwidth
I use to set my networks this way:
all ddwrt boxes (wrt54gl-1.1, buff whrG54s & AG108 and Ubiquity NS/PS devices) running v24sp2-12188
DSL Modem<wire>ddwrt-AP<radio>single ddwrt-client<LAN-wire-WAN>ddwrt-AP(s)(s)<radio(s)>several ddwrt-clients<wire>PC or end user router
this makes at least 5 or 6 different LANs

I'm tired with all this and I wandered if there's a better solution so I searched the wiki and found the chapter about linking routers and the different client modes available... and this thread ;)

I hoped I could have a single dhcp server for the whole network running in the first AP, so I thought that I could use this schema instead of mine current:
DSL Modem<wire>ddwrt-AP<radio>single ddwrt-client-bridge<LAN-wire-LAN>ddwrt-WAP(s)<radio(s)>several ddwrt-clients<wire>PC or end user router
which would merge 2 LANs (first single-client's and second AP's ones) with the one of the first master AP.

Although I read there are limitations with client-bridge mode (single MAC passing) so maybe this schema would give better satisfaction:
DSL Modem<wire>ddwrt-APwds<radio>single ddwrt-StationWDS<LAN-wire-LAN>ddwrt-WAP(s)<radio(s)>several ddwrt-clients<wire>PC or end user router.

I'd like to use wpa2-psk-aes only for all radios and do ip reservations for the end ddwrt routers... and even for the two between routers (bridge/staWDS and WAP) LAN IP maybe with the help of this strartup script found here.

Any comments please?

I think WDS would be better because it does not have the "single MAC passing limitation", unfortunately its support in v24 seems still a bit buggy for some common use-cases. Do a search using "WDS" keyword on the forum and you will get a feel for its current limitation/usability.

Hi,

I need to connect 2 router in bridge mode but I have only a linksys with dd-wrt that i can configure with bridge mode

My other router device is a belkin f5d3235-4V1 that at the moment, unfortunately is unsupported from dd-wrt

I wanted to know if I can configure my belkin like access point and my dd-wrt in some mode that I can to exploit the network in similar mode of bridge....

for exemple belkin access point and dd-wrt connected at belkin in bridge mode

thanks for any suggestion
