I was planning on changing the password on my WAP54G v3.1 but I only get an auto config ip address of 169.xx.xx.xx and a subnet mask. It doesn't matter if I manually set the ip I cannot access the gui. The lights blink.

I know it's bloody tough but once you learn how to navigate through the peacock and wiki, you'll live happier.

Because I can sympathize with your situation, take a look at this. http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Recover_from_a_bad_flash#WRT54G.2FGL.2FGS !!!It's not for a WAP54G but it gives you an idea of what kind of info you can find.

EDIT: You should know that DD-WRT was not originally intended to be loaded on a WAP unit.

I need to make it clear that I am far from an expert and I need you to read everything carefully!

Furthermore, I would HIGHLY suggest waiting for a GURU to express his/her opinion before you do ANYTHING other that read. All routers are very specific from model to model and what will work for one will not work for all.

Do anything at your own risk!!!!!!!

Please please please please please read the announcements and stickies. You need to post more info, such as the firmware you used.

Read the wiki on your router. The WAP unit is different. If you didn't set the ver in the nvram, you will not be able to reset it. Info on this router is in the wiki install guide for it.

Try opening up cmd and ping the router.

Click Start,
Click Run
type CMD and hit enter
type ping routeraddress (ie: ping 192.168.1.1)
reply here what the response was. As I learned last night, there is always a response.

AND KEEP READING!!!!! All of the answers are there but not always easy to find.

What happens when you power cycle the router. See the peacock announcement note 6 for the three ping tests you should be reporting about.
