I'm dave-levy, not so experienced computer adventurer.
Well, i was randomly looking into my router, wireless technology and somehow stumbled upon this site. I have to say this custom firmware thing looks real sweet. Besides, i'm studying computers and have some free time, so why not go fer it?
Basically i'm preparing to install cfw to my router. I understand that there are lots of pitfalls and doing a slight error can cause griefance and potential jtagging, that is, if my router even supports it ...
I love my router and therefore i have to make sure i do get all the steps right. I've soldered and modified some game consoles but i believe the jtag technique is out of my league, so i'm hoping the soup won't boil that way.
Basically, i'm looking for the right firmware for my router and any other tip that might come in handy.
From the
"supported devices" wiki, in the segment for my router: Belkin F5D7231-4 v2001yy
i found this in the description:
"v24 preSP2 svn 11546 micro"
Now i am really struggeling with understanding what this means.
On to the downloads page, i went to the "normal" v24 since sp1 is not reccomended, eventhough the wiki said pre sp2.
This is the path im looking at from the official downloads page:
Downloads › v24 › Broadcom › Belkin › F5D7231-4_v2000
I found there is no v2001 and i'm assuming v2000 is the correct designate for my router. Is it?
Belkins are tricky. Sometimes they work even though they are not listed as supported, and sometimes they don't. If there isn't a wiki install for your exact model of router (notice the 0), you are experimenting.
Search the forum for your router model and you might get some guidance. Read links in my sig below as well.
But the upgradeing is taking a very long time 'approx 2 hrs', and i'm afraid i missed the boot window somehow. apparently the upgrader app does not give any indication if it did hit that window or not, and goes through with the 'upgrading' anyway, fancy load bar and all.
Is it normal for an upgrade to be taking such a time?
