Hello,

Mods, if I am posting this in the wrong forum, I apologize.

To start off:
Router Model: Netgear Nighthawk AC1900
https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R7000.aspx

Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r35030M kongac (02/19/18)

I am having some difficulties with my router currently. Well, I have had some problems for a while now and I'm unsure how to proceed.

I bought this router around Winter 2016 and successfully used the terrible firmware that was packaged with it until about a week ago. I've been meaning to flash it to DD-WRT for sometime because the router seemed to need to be restarted pretty often.

Last week, it got really bad and the router pretty much refused to work, even after restarts.

So, I plugged my computer into my modem and everything was completely fine...

Then I successfully flashed the firmware that I had listed above, I followed the instructions on the website. This seemed to mostly fix the problem for a couple times, occasionally the network went down still and I needed to restart the router.

Now, currently, the router needs to be restarted about every hour or two in order for my network to come back up. The reason for me restarting it is that no device can access the internet via WiFi or hardwired.

I run a tracert on my main computer and this happens:

Tracing route to 8.8.8.8 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms DD-WRT [192.168.1.1]
2 (my ip) reports: Destination host unreachable.

I'm pretty good at tech. I cannot for the life of me figure out what's wrong with my router. I paid a pretty decent sum of money for it and can't fathom why I'm having so many problems with it.

I looked in the Syslog under administration and there are no glaring errors that jump out at me.

So I come to you fine folks at 1am. Can someone, anyone, please point me in the right direction?

Did I buy a terrible router? Or could it be defective?

Am I missing something obvious?

Are you sure it is not your modem or Internet? How about the cable between the modem and router? What happens if you just use a pc connected to the modem for the period of time that would cover a failure? The fact that the tracert saw the router's IP says the router is up.

It's a pretty sporadic issue sometimes. Other times, it's just a request timed out.

R7000 is the most stable router. It is a workhorse router for many folks with months of uptime Smile
Please update with the latest Kong's firmware dated 05/10/18 and reset then configure it from scratch to rule out any setup issues.

When you say reset, I should be doing the reset nvram command, correct?

Yes, telnet or ssh to the router, then:
issue the commands:

erase nvram && reboot

And should I update it before resetting, correct?

Thank you for reading and taking the time to help me so far!

You can also do it from GUI, when you update the new firmware.
Should work just fine. Don't be scared Smile

I'm suffering a similar issue after buying the router new and doing a fresh install of dd-wrt.

The router looses network connection after 30 minutes up time but it's a case of degrading over say 2 or 3 minutes until it's lost both LAN and Wireless connections. Lights are ok as normal. It's hard to know if it's loosing it's internet connection.

the router model is a AC1900 | R7000-100UKS

I have currently installed: DD-WRT v3.0-r36698M std (08/22/1Cool

Can you point me towards an alternative ?

I have been running the r7000 for a long while. Had been getting issues similar and requiring reboots. Issue turned out to be a funky port on the r7000 switch. Once I quit using it it'll be just fine for 60+ days at a time.

I've reflashed it following the instructions above with DD-WRT v3.0-r37442 std (10/19/1Cool and it seems ok now, and hasn't bombed yet. It put up a fight and needed a couple of resets but seems ok now.

Which port(s) were the issue for you ?

Bad port was the furthest one from the power plug, believe that's port 4.
