I have a WNDR3700v4, and am running Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r43055 std (05/05/20). I noticed that my clients will randomly disconnect, have trouble connecting, and connections are usually slow and timeout. Is it something with the firmware where it is a bug, or does my router need replacing or updating?

Post your settings.
Did you encounter it after installing newer build?
Check these settings
Do NOT use auto channel
set "wireless network mode" to NG-Mixed
"Short GI" enabled if you do NOT use client NOT supporting n (bg only)
"Short Preamble" enabled (for every g, n and ac cappable hardware/driver except historic b 11 Mbit clients)
"WMM support" enabled (optimize handling) on n clients
"Noise Immunity" disabled (for compatibility with non Atheros/Qualcomm WLAN clients)
"Airtime Fairness" disabled (if existing) if all your WLAN clients get a decent signal and speed compared to the max. supported on the hardware you may not need/use that support for weak/very slow clients, try disabled and enabled and compare speed on crucial clients.
Use the security setting key compatible to 2.4 AND 5 ghz clients:
WPA2 (Personal) CCMP-128 AES
Check this build (you should reset all settings, downgrade and recreate all settings manually):
Netgear WNDR3700 V4
DD-WRT v3.0-r42410 std (02/17/20)
Linux 3.18.140-d4 #70247 Mon Feb 17 06:20:09 +04 2020 mips
all good
