Hello everyone!

I am new here, greetings to all. Long time dd-wrt user first time poster. I had D-Link Dir-400 with dd-wrt before, recently bought Linksys E3200, and I love dd-wrt to death, and want to install dd-wrt on my new router. When I installed on Dir-400 It was a step by step simple procedure but I can't find step by step instructions for E3200. Will anyone please guide me how to do it??

One more thing: Can I use my E3200 to download anything to an external hard disk on its USB port without any computer.

Thanks for your help.

Regards.

Well, yes, install Optware after flashing it with DD-WRT, and you have therein transmission for torrents, nzbget for Usenet and wget/curl for HTTP and FTP. Don't expect it to save files faster than about 8 MB/s to 13 MB/s.

Should you need to upgrade, for added features such as USB, do so using the nv60k builds - For example, the files will have this naming format - dd-wrt.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv60k.bin

So this is my first post and I was going to create a new thread, but after a few searches, I found yours is exactly what I am asking. I have spent the last 4 hours reading the peacock thread, the wiki, several hardware id threads and all the rules and stickies here. I'm not new to flashing firmware or Roms, as I have been doing it to PPC Phones for years. I am also a computer geek. However, I am totally new to flashing routers. So I just want to make sure I am going to do this right before I blow up a perfectly good router.

I believe I have the same Linksys E3200 as yours.

So my game plan is.

Unplug everything except one Cat6 cable from the router to the laptop.

Do a 30/30/30 Hold reset for 30 seconds, pull power keep holding reset for 30 seconds, plug power in while holding reset still for an additional 30 seconds. Then finally release.

Let the router boot up, and go and flash this....

dd-wrt.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3200

Wait 5mins while it loads.

Once Flashed and back to the routers interface.

Verify it flashed correctly.

Then do another 30/30/30 once booted back can I just directly flash this...

dd-wrt.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv60k

Then once done I should be ready to rock?

I really need to keep the USB port working, and I really like the idea of a torrent server built into the software. (That is assuming I have the right version for what I need)

I am on a 100mbps down / 5mbps cable connection, so QOS is not an issue and I don't use VPN for anything.

I am also trying to get my N access speed up. My laptop just won't talk to it any faster than about 2mBps. Which is dumb. Laptop is an I7 with 8gb of ram, and an SSD boot drive. So I am hoping that this firmware will get me some of my speed.

Can anyone confirm that I am not missing anything?

Thank you for taking the time to read through all this.

You can't get N band functionality with dd-wrt on e3200, until the drivers are released............. Lets hope for the best......

Besides, after doing 30/30/30 wait about 10 minutes before flashing and wait about 10 minutes after you get the change password screen after a new flash.

Ok HOLD THE BEANS.... If I lose N band when I flash, I may just nix the entire thing for the time being. N band may be slow. But the range is double if not triple what I got with G. (Its slow no matter if I am 2 ft or 50ft from the router, but it always stays connected with great signal) Because we have a large house and I use my laptop all over the place. I can't give that up. Any idea when you think the drivers will be made available?

P.S. we have 11 desktop computers, and 5 laptops. I think 3 of the 5 laptops are running N here, 6 Smart phones and 3 video game machines on the network as well. All the hard lines are gigabit with gig switches as well. I have a need for speed. We do a lot of streaming of video content.

I thought it is the other way around: the N band is fast and needs proximity, while the G band is slower and reaches farther away.

Anyway the 5 GHz band is faster and needs proximity while the 2.4 Ghz band is slower and reaches farther away.

Here is the table with the bands: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11#Protocols

I too have a 3200 that i am looking to flash.

This will replace my WRT54GL that has been running dd-wrt wonderfully for a bit now.

I have installed
dd-wrt.v24-17201_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3200.bin
already and it seems all well.

After the 30-30-30 reset i can log in and make use of the unit.

Here is where the trouble pops up. 5 GHZ seems to have gone away. When i attempt to configure the wireless using the UI I see the 2.4 band but there is nothing for the 5 band.

Did i miss something? Do i need to upgrade to something like the mega build? enable through cli?
help help!

****Edit: Ignore this post, After searching some more and paging through posts I found the answer. 5ghz is not yet supported****

****Edit #2: In light of this; any recommendations for a good replacement for the e3200 that will support 5ghz? I currently have access to an e2500 and an e4200. But i can also spend a little bit to get what i want.****
