Hi, I'm trying to upgrade,
but the stock web interface does not allow .chk files for the upgrade. It requires a .img file. I rename the file to ddwrt.img, and it says "Invalide filename!". I don't see any other place to upgrade firmware.

Huh? I'm pretty sure I flashed a file named "dd-wrt.v24-16785_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR2000v2.chk" from stock firmware to dd-wrt.

I'm pretty sure you guys did, but I can't. I had the same WNR2000v2.chk file that was mentioned. Maybe there is a different place on the web interface to upgrade. I only found one. Anything I can do to figure this out? I've only flashed a couple devices, so I'm still a newbie.

Hello,

I just flashed my WRN2000v2 with the initial firmware file "dd-wrt.v24-16785_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR2000v2.chk". Everything is working but I want to have the latest available firmware version for my router. Where can I get the latest version?

Thank you!

Hi Guys,

I'm newbbie about this procedure on router but not in hoter devices.

I tried to load this file http://www.dd-wrt.com/routerdb/de/download/Netgear/WNR2000/v2/dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR2000v2.chk/4048

on my router netgear WNR2000v2 but my power led become to blinking slowly green.

I had to use softrware recovery utility to flash original firmware inside it and now it is restarted.

I done this operation trought wifi link, could I solve this issue flashing this firmware with cable LAN connection?

thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to share another build that worked for me, I tried the openvpn_small from the database homepage but SSH did not work, deal killer for security. However it was encouraging as this router is very, very picky.

I spent a few hours and tried every release of openvpn_small that looked close in size and after bricking then recovering it about 10-15 times this firmware worked for me on both of mine with ssh and openvpn...
dd-wrt.v24-21153_NEWD-2_K2.6_openvpn_small.bin

Finally, a bug that wasted a lot of my time was when I setup an openvpn client on this build, the compression settings do not remember being set to disabled after a reboot. It will work perfectly during initial testing however it will default back upon reboot thus breaking communication even though all of the status messages indicate a successful connection. I finally tracked this down and just set compression to off in the server instead of commenting it out and everything was golden.

Hope this helps but I would make sure you are comfortable with un-bricking it before trying random images. The instructions on this forum are great for that, just be patient.

-Dave

This will be my first time flashing a router like this, and this site has me a little confused on which version do install for my WNR200v2. When I searched for it in the directory it is telling me to use dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-WNR2000v2.chk, but when I look at the instructions wiki it tells me to download version 15962. Further, on the bottom of the wiki page, it says the latest Brainslayer Mini version I can use is 18777.

I also found the 16785 version in the directory when I searched for my router.

File sizes:
15962: 3377 KB
16785: 3385 KB
21061: 3461 KB

The wiki says the largest file size I can use is 3392 KB, so my gut tells me to use the 16785 version. Any advice?

Hi J-Rad,
You can find all the correct versions by searching for "wnr2000" and selecting the right version, in this case v2 from the database, http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

If its only showing the older 16785, there should be a drop down to select 21061 after "Supported by" if not, try a different web browser.

Use the "Webflash image for first installation" its a .chk file if you still have the netgear firmware and its same process you are used to with updating firmware your router your used to.

Side note... only use the recommended ones from that page unless your willing to cut it open and jump it to life. I have 2 and "bricked" and fixed them, not so fun, haha.

Good luck Smile

For anyone who might still be looking for a newer build svn17990 is the newest i was able to successfully apply ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/V24-K26/svn17990/dd-wrt.v24-17990_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini.bin

Its been working and so far no wireless drops anymore when in client bridge.
