Im having a problem with my new 610N

Let me start off by giving you details

WRT610Nv2, running:
DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/07/10) big - build 14205M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko

bootnv_ver=18
pmon_ver=CFE 5.10.56.51
size: 27955 bytes (4813 left)

When I switch the unit off and then back on, 5 out of 10 times it comes back up. What I mean when i say back up is, the dhcp server sends the ip address and the wireless network shows up on my laptop. (also if the amber light is off the wireless doesn't work)

If i switch it off, then on again a few times, eventually it will come back up. When it is back online the unit runs for months with no random reboots or querks.

I don't know what the real problem is, but sometimes i need to restart the router from the wan side (when im not home) and it doesn't come back up.

I know that there was a slight mention of a reboot bug, but i couldn't find anymore information on it.

Here what I did find:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=418997&highlight=wrt610n+reboot#418997

Thanks for any info!

This is what i have read on that issue

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=64394

Although i don't believe its a make/model issue, post says its a K26 issue, i use K26 14289 Brainslayer on my wrt320n and it boots up fast everytime, although honestly i haven't had to reboot it for some days now, so im not sure what it may be but perhaps that link may provide you with more info and insight as well.

Check your power supply. Check the available nvram (note 10 of the peacock) and make sure you did a proper hard reset when you flashed the firmware. if not, start over. You also might try the 13525 build.

I have the 610v2, 610v1 & 320. The 610v2 is the only one that takes longer to boot up I've seen it as bad as 15min which is nuts! I think the problem is that the CFE is causing book-up issues for DD-WRT and causes IP address issues.

I have my 610v2 on a UPS to prevent long reboot issues.

It was discussed that a serial capture of the boot was needed. I don't think that ever happened. That would be the only way to resolve the issue.. Find out what is happening during boot.

I don't have a V2.. just a V1 Crying or Very sad

Of Course i've followed the peacock posting and the 30/30/30 reset. Thats the first thing i do with any router.
The power supply is operating correctly, I use a voltmeter attached between the power supply and the router to verify current and voltage. No problems there.

As far as available nvram:

Total Available 92% 60004 kB / 65536 kB
Free 69% 41688 kB / 60004 kB
Used 31% 18316 kB / 60004 kB
Buffers 12% 2160 kB / 18316 kB
Cached 36% 6612 kB / 18316 kB
Active 7% 1360 kB / 18316 kB
Inactive 7% 1197 kB / 18316 kB

Dont understand the exact nature of what the nvram says but thats what it is.

I will consider that, only thing is that i don't have a cable or anything made. I know how to solder and make cables but if its possible to post the links (procedure) here for doing it. I will also post my images and procedure here for anyone interested.

you can get to the serial connections via connections in the wan port so you don't even have to open the box.

There is lots & lots of info about this on the board. There is also the "everything you wanted to know about serial" (something like that), that has pics & links to the equipment needed.

I'll do it.. I'll trade ya my V1 for your V2 Laughing

I appreciate your offer, but even though im having troubles i still love my router.:)

I found the article that shows how to make the cable to serial into the router, I remember reading something about this, just needed a memory jog to recall how to do it

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=384470#384470

I will make the cable and post my results (hopefully soon!)

If people have anymore info please post.

yea.. that is the interface to engage the connections in the wan port (thanks eko!).

You will still need a 3.3v ttl to serial or usb adapter. They are only a few bucks.

The serial in the router is ttl, not rs232

Although I am not sure it will turn out to be relevant to your problem, that's not your nvram....see note 10 of the peacock.

If im not mistaken isn't nvram only a considerable part only after the os has loaded, not while the cfe is loading?

here are my results

size: 28952 bytes (3816 left)
ping_ip=nvram show |grep wan_ipaddr

See the serial thread at the end of note 6 of the peacock...it should tell you all you need.

you know ReadtheAnnouncements! you could be much more useful and helpful by just posting a thread link

http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=56739

In case of your rebuttal of not reading the peacock, this forum is dedicated to solving problems by developing solutions. Since no one has figured out how to fix this problem with this router it is the first tutorial on how. SO cut the people pioneering things a little slack and actually help instead of looking down on people that have a life (not reading the peacock thread like a bible)
