Hi,

Apologies if this has been covered before, but I think I must have read every post relating to the Archer C7 by now.

I'm a little new to advanced home networking. I have an ATT BGW210 and an Archer C7 v.2 running dd-wrt build 36168 (was running build 37305, but wifi wasn't working with WPA2 security).

My goal is to route all computers (wired and wireless), smart home gadgets (Apple TV, Amazon Alexa, etc), and a Synology NAS RAID through the Archer C7 running dd-wrt so I can take advantage of QOS and other features.

I've read that I should use IP Passthrough on the ATT BGW to pass the public IP to the Archer C7, but my concern is that I don't have a static IP address. So, won't my public IP change periodically, taking down my whole network? Or am I misunderstanding how this works?

Does anyone have any advice as to the best way to set this up? Remember, I want the Archer C7 to route all traffic so I can control bandwidth, monitor everything, etc.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Set your C7 to DHCP. That should work fine. No need for a fixed IP, or does your ISP uses PPPoE?

But isn't there an advantage to using the DHCP server in the C7? Wouldn't I need to do that in order to effectively manage everything using ddwrt?

Yes, but serving IP addresses to clients on your LAN is a different function that getting a IP address for the WAN from your ISP. These are configured independently.
